Zechirian's New NEW 120 in-wall build.

Hi All,

Well even though I built a 90G about 2 months ago that urge to upgrade (already ) kicked in pretty hardcore. Needless to say the wife said some words she wish she could take back, "Why don't you put it in the wall in your office". :yo:

Aaand so here we go!

This is the current 90


The 120 will be coming in sometime this week and will be going in to the wall directly behind the 90. It happens to be a standard closet which should provide atleast 18" on either side of the 120 and goes up about 8 ft. Planning to have the tank about 3ft off the ground just in case we decide to put a bookcase below it or something along those lines. I plan on framing it with some sort of molding but who know.

I've already ordered some new lights, Ocean Revive Artic-T247 x2 which I am excited about as the Aquamana's I purchased a little while back are a bit of a PITA with their new layout.

We'll be doing a majority of the work this weekend and hopefully will have some pictures of the progress as we go along. I'm really excited as I've ALWAYS wanted to do this.

That being said, if anyone has any advice please share and share often!

Quick update:

Decided against the in the wall build and to go with a custom stand and place it where the current tank sits.

Sorry for the fuzzy pictures. hwell: My kick ass step-father took up the task of building a stand and this was a week ago. Since then he's tripled up the posts and added a ton more.





Ah good times! Hopefully make some more progress today after the Hawks game.

Update time, things have been moving very slow with other real life things stepping in the way.





One big issue is we noticed this lil bubble/crack when we place the tank on the stand... someone please let me know if this might be an issue. It's pretty small but scary seeing as this thing hasn't even been filled yet.

That bubble/crack is absolutely an issue. It's on a seam and it's down low, where the most pressure will be placed on it. I would take the aquarium back and get a different one from the store you bought it at. It should not have left the factory looking like that and it should not have left the store looking like that.

It is a potential failure point down the road.

I'd just hate to have the thing fail/shatter when full....
Might happen immediately, might happen in 10 years, might not happen at all...

But this hobby is really about minimizing risks and environmental changes. Why risk it?

Hey all, just got done exchanging emails and pictures with Aqueon and it looks like a simple bubble. So i'll keep an eye on it as I continue to build just to make sure it doesn't get any worse.

Here are some MUCH better and clearer photos in case you guys would like to comment further.

Much better pictures. It is on the outside and not seam side so I think you will be alright. I had the same thing on my 29 gallon sump and it still is doing fine. Since it was the sump, I just put silicone on it and put a strong strapping tape on it, just to add a little insurance.

Having said that...I'm Joe Paranoid.
Save all emails with Aqueonin case the seam fails suddenly.

I honestly dont think that's likely to happen after seeing the additional pictures, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

If the seam fails and you still have those emails, you MIGHT be able to get Aqueon to refund you some money or send you a new tank.

Still waiting patiently for the remainder of the build.

It's moving, setup and praying day!

Should have updates throughout the day, down cometh the 90 and the 120 is in the on-deck circle.

I've been scouring many different forums looking for ideas and ways to make the in place upgrade as smooth as possible.... one of the things they do not mention is if your neighbor rents an aerator and offers it up for your yard as well, you do it, lol. Nothing like a 45 minute break to aerate the lawn.
