Zeovit potassium test kit

Anybody play with this yet. One of my guys on the other chem forum has. It does not look good. It read 225 ppm K+, so he calculated how much K+ would take to raise the level 150 ppm to 375 ppm K+. The kit showed 275 ppm K+ aftrer the addition..

My understanding is that the Merc test kit is the only one that measures below .5 PPM which is the level that you need when keeping sps species.

You lost me We are talking about Potassium and not Phosphate. Potassium in seawater is 380 ppm. Merck dos not make a Potassium test that measures this high. Knowbody does but Zeovit. Many test kit comapines measure Phosphate to .02 ppm.,i.e., HACH, LaMotte. etc

With accuracy like this, I think I would just stick my finger in my tank, then stick it in my mouth and take a guess as to my K level.

Besides, even though most fish foods are going to be dosing K into your tank on a regular basis, I've never read anything that says an excessive amount is detrimental to marine life. Beside, a good water change should lower your levels.

The only time I would even worry about this is if I was dosing Potassium Iodide. I don't feel dosing Iodine is necessary nor useful so I wouldn't worry about a Potassium build-up either.

I dont think most that are playing with K are not worried about it being to high. For the most part most of are tanks are "low" in K.
The Pohls is accurate if you learn how to use it. Form what Ive tried K does make a difference in a low nutrient tank. Really brings out the blues, but doesnt effect growth.

With that said, a doctor in my reef club had similar results when testing this kit's accuracy.

The Pohls is accurate if you learn how to use it.

Based on what . The guy using this kit is very, very, good at what he does. Have you run some tests against any std. I posted this to look for answers on how good the kit is or isn't. Do you have any data or something similar to what I posted ?

Ya, I conducted 5 test on five different dates at 5 differnt K levels. I then had the 5 test retested by spectra labs. All five test were very close. That was when I first got the kit. I then just last week had two different samples tested by spectra labs since I just got a new kit. Both samples were very close.
One thing you'll find is that its nearly impossible to get consistant results indoors under artifical lighting.

My eyes have tritonopia sp? which make this kit easy for me to see. But I cant see the Salifert Mg or the P kit.

That's gotta stink. I didn't know what that was so I googled it.
