Zoa/Paly discussion?

Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

OK then, let's throw down a challenge. Forgive me mods if I am out of line here, no disrespect, but it's time to jump start this once bustling forum. I'm reading through a years worth of threads here in this forum. I see the most replies/feedback/input is on the picture threads. Well, let's invite all of those people back to this forum and anyone else who has posted in this forum for some serious zoa related reef discussions. I'm not into names, tiny frag pics ( no disrespect ), IDs, lineage, price and value etc. yadda yadda. Those topics in my opinion will do absolutely nothing to enhance your reefing knowledge, success or longevity in this hobby. I am however game for some very lenghty, informative, involved and detailed discussions. I've always heard, "well, there's nothing else left to talk about Mucho". I say, HOG WASH, or is it HOGWASH? I keep at least a dozen topics on my desktop ready to post, but one or two people can't do it alone. There is simply sooooo much more to reefing than those 6 topics I mentioned above. You guys/gals have far too much knowledge to not show up and share it. Don't you agree?

So, pass the word, let's flood this forum Tuesday the 18th at 9 PM Eastern time. I don't care what we talk about, but I'll kick it off.....I just hope the team shows up. If we get 50 reefers logged into this forum, not including guest, I'll show something you have probably never seen before, something truly rare in my opinion.

Whatta yah say Mfinn, ...you in?

PS. Think of some new topics of interest and let's try to keep at least 3 of them active at one time. Hey, if you have more, that's great too. "Lord willing and the creek don't rise", we can get this forum rolling again.

Hey, I'm trying.

9 pm eastern time aye! Well I wont be able to check in until 11 pm eastern time but I will contribute too, if I can.

Awesome, I'm sure you have lots to share.

And my sincere apologies if I came on too strong in my above post, it's nothing more than zeal. I wasn't putting anyone down regarding those 6 topics I mentioned, they are great for those who enjoy them, I just prefer something different is all.
Invite some of your reef buds as well.

Well you said no pictures names or Id discussions so why not talk about growth as a few of us have
We could go into lighting, foods, flow, color, bigger colonies grow faster so I've heard?

In my experience I've had different colors not grow as well as others. Don't know if it's just the type of zoa paly but they are definitely different.

My purple gorilla nipples I think they are I've had for atleast 6 months, tried all offer my tank and they have not grown a new head yet.

Every buddy lives big colonies so why not figure how to help this process.
Also people have talked about small colonies in my experience. Just melting away in a perfectly healthy tank.

Also the size of zoas. What size should the heads be? I've had some that were maybe a half of grain of rice, up to maybe a dime size head.

What differs those sizes?

What's on your mind when it comes to talking about zoas/palys. They are beautiful beginner to advanced corals.

The colors you can get, along with the overall time of growth you can get is amazing.

I'm down for whatever class discussions you all would like to have about these beautiful creatures. Always like to learn

Those are great points and equally great questions. May I suggest you copy your above post and formulate it into a series of concerns and questions and then create a new thread with the appropriate title for everyone to see and contribute to. How about it mate? Then invite some zoa keepers to join us for the discussion and we can all share said information. It's your call my friend and it could be a great thread for all to contribute to.

Thanks, Mucho

Haha I'd rather you write it up. I'm just in for the conversation. :)
I currently do not had access to a wcomputer do it would be really hard to get everything the way I'd want.
After all I thought we were givin you ideas for a group conversation of awesome information.

Maybe I gave the wrong impression, this is not about me, it's about us. Everyone here has a voice, I just hope everyone will use it to help activate this forum again. I was simply urging everyone to contribute with new ideas and to create a zoa/paly/proto related thread.

We know its not about you. We would all like to see more discussion about the topics people have brought up. I think most everyone here is pretty new, I know I am still new although I have been keeping sw for just over 3 years. I still dont know why some issues like melting happens. what the best product for feeding might be. If there were people with proven exprience contributing to the conversations we would learn more and then those that come into the hobby years from now could learn from us. It just seems that a lot of the more experienced people left. Some have come back around, and I for one look forward to their contributions of their experiences and suggestions. I agree there is a lot to talk about, we just need the participation from everyone from beginners asking questions and the experienced ones answering those questions and giving more explanations on why and how.

Thanks lorrie.
Yeah I am willing to learn from the experienced people. I should've stayed in marine biology and I could've maybe taken my issues to the next level.
Anyway. Where would we find the people who have lots of knowledge/experience about these things.

No one here, hey, I tried

Hmm, I thought it was in the other thread that everyone was meeting up in. Who knows...anyway, thats were a few of are, in the To all Zoa/Paly keepers thread and the Reef Corals forum.

No one here, hey, I tried

Well,, I for one couldn't make it.
At 9 eastern time I was in the middle of a 2-1/2 hour drive home.

So, instead of trying to hold one big rally with everyone involved, post a single topic and see what happens.

I am new to reefs. I would like this thread to keep going! I have 3 corals, but I don't know what exactly they are. The recipt from the store said "misc. coral". I wanna hear more!!

As for my green goblins. They still grow like wild fire. Fragged or not they grow a couple heads a week :) good traders :)

As for the other 5 or so different zoas palys they grow reallll slow I'd like to speed them up. I've seen one or two threads that people posted on different site that show a years growth and their huge!

I have a 55 gallon with 4 t5s two actinic one white and one purple

Going LEDs soon I hope. :(
Steven

I'm still new, & your comments raised a few questions..
#1 Who do you trade frags with? #2 How can you speed them up?
