My ASM G3 Skimmer occasionally goes out of control.

It is certainly a possibility. It has been 3 weeks since my tank swap there is a bit of cycling going on at the moment. I have more algae on the glass than before the swap. Had to turn the skimmer off. Oh the mysteries of reefing.

My ASM G3 Skimmer occasionally goes out of control.

I am the only one who feeds the tank I feed the fish the same amount every day. Been doing it for years the same way. It is quite strange. I don't have an overflow container on the skimmer cup, so it just goes into the sump.

My ASM G3 Skimmer occasionally goes out of control.

Last night my skimmer was about 3/4 full. Tonight it was overflowing anad the tank is full of micro bubbles. I had to drop the level all the way down to get it to stop overflowing. It takes over a week to fill the cup normally. This seems to happen every few months. Nothing has changed, water...

    Big Tank Move Number two

I once moved everything from a southern state to Washington. Put all the live stock in trash bags in styrofoam shipping containers in the trunk. Had a 12 volt air pump driving airstones in the containers. Did not lose any fish. Did not have corals then.

    Now Hiring!

I would be up for doing it. My reef is 15 years old now. Started my first salt water tank in 1974. It would be a great op to get to know everyone better. I spend a lot of time on the board.

Could both of my Icecap 250 ballasts have died at once?

Quite strange. Lights were off for 5 hours. I tried plugging into a different outlet, nothing. I went to bed discouraged, my wife said the lights went out in the living room. I checked and the gfi behind the tank tripped. Reset it and now my lights work. I am happy, but bewildered.

Could both of my Icecap 250 ballasts have died at once?

I just replaced the bulbs yesterday with new Radium 20k's tonight the lights are off and they have power. They worked this morning. This could be really sad. I might be looking for a couple of electronic ballasts.

The tank swap is nearly finished.

My weekend tank swap took a week, but it is nearly done. Swapped my 100 gallon with one overflow to a 125 with two overflows and closed loop with Oceans Motions and a Sequence dart. Did the rockscape by drilling and inserting fiberglass rods. All rocks are on 2.5' acrylic rods so they are off...

My 15 year old reef is coming down this weekend

The stand is rebuilt, Sunday we moved it in, I put heavy vinyl they sell at HD inside the stand and on top. It is for bathroom walls. Glued down with linoleum adhesive. That should protect it for years to come. Took about 6 hours to do the plumbing. It all fit in the 4.5" behind the tank. Filled...

My 15 year old reef is coming down this weekend

Well, at midnight the tank and stand are out and all the livestock is safely in the tub. It is interesting what can happen to a stand in 15 years with a tank full of salt water. It is a great stand made of maple and maple plywood but they used a 1/4 thick of masonite over the back constant water...

My reef has been running for over 15 years. Same gravel and rocks. It is time for a thorough cleaning. It will be interesting to see what creatures I find hidden behind and under the rock. The process has begun. I am swapping tanks to add a closed loop. 100 gallons of saltwater are in the...

Sanding and polishing inside of my tank.

I have my new/used 125 all plumbed and almost ready for the big swap. I am sanding and polishing the entire inside. Started with 220 sanding disk on the deep scratches. Then 400, 600, 800. 1000, 1200, 1500 and 1800. It is not clear yet, but my arm is really sore. Next comes 2400, 3200, 3600...

Overflow - where to buy a protective cover

You can buy a plastic mesh at a fabric store that people use for doing embroidery on has about 1/8" square on it. Would probably work for you.

Need to get an anemone off a rock

I have held them in front of the return flow for a couple minutes and they usually start to let go. If they are not stuck into crevices of the rock they can be peeled off with fingernails. You just need the first 1/4 inch then it is pretty easy. Good luck Mike!
