People are going to choke when I say this put use a buffer. Mix it up well in a cup and drip it. Don't use to much or it will raise alkalinity to high.

You could try it. What are the instructions on the bottle (melafix)? I am sure that some of us in here could configure an accurate equation to figure out what it would be.

    Clowns Hosting Anemone

When I had my 75 up and running my clowns stayed in about, say 15 gallons of the 75. Mine stayed in the far right of the tank next to the heater and wouldn't venture to much further than that. I put several anemones in the tank and neither clown would host. I would like to try another one now...

    Tank turned 41 years old

I am very impressed. I would have never figured that a tank would last that long. You hear so many people talk about old tank syndrome that completely crash the tank.

    Sea Hare questions?

I would continue to do water changes weekly. I would even consider doing them every five days. Water changes are a must to get the nitrates down. The sea hare will help get rid of the algae that is holding nitrates in for food. Just remember with these things, what goes in comes out. It...

    Sea Hare questions?

I have one and love it. It is a neat creature. Once they have eaten all of the algae off of your rocks you have to feed them. Mine cruises around the tank all day and scrubs what it can off of the rocks. My only problem with mine is that it is very large. So when it walks around loose rocks...

    orange plate coral splitting

My hairy mushroom did that last week. I know that it is two different things but still similar. The one that I had split three ways. I thought that it was dying.

    ID by description.

I have a new piece of LR that I put in a few weeks ago and noticed a few things living on it. A. Some sort of clam that is upside down. His "foot" comes out of the front. I am assuming that this is some sort of an oyster. It doesn't have anything that hangs out of the crack or opening of...

Advice needed for LARGE tank upgrade

EDIT: If it were mine I would do a total of 500 gallon system. I would buy a 200 gallon rubbermaid container and section it for the sump.

    Foreign object in my tank

I put a single peppermint shrimp in and he took care of several aptasia for me. If your tank is large I would recommend several. They're great for eating that and I see mine eating debris under rock all day.
