Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

We made an offer on a house today and the seller accepted! I will be living in here in a few months! Through the kitchen you can barely see this room in the back: You guessed it, where the book case and bed are is where my new fish tank will go, and I will be punching a hole in the wall to...

Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

As of right now I am in Durham, NC house shopping, but I have some pretty exciting news after only one day. My fiancee and I have found two houses we really love and both of them have near perfect set ups for a fish tank WITH a fish room! Our favorite hous has a large walk in closet for the fish...

Blue Jaw Trigger +Neon Goby = yummy

I don't think anyone has ever called the xanthichthys trigger fish herbivorous, they are definitely planktivorous. Planktivores eat smaller (and yes, meaty) crustaceans and larvae out of the water column. They are also known to go after some of the softer shelled shrimp that we keep in our...

Blue Jaw Trigger +Neon Goby = yummy

My sargassum trigger is large (>5") but he is perfectly docile with all the tank mates, including a tailspot blenny, a yellow watchmen goby, and a small flasher wrasse. He did bite me once, but that was because I had food in my fingertips he was extremely excited about. Didn't really hurt, just...

Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

I know, but if I can sell my tank that has a beautifully working BeanAnimal overflow along with all the plumbing and sump, oak stand and hood, and 4 T5 bulbs with individual reflectors and ballasts for ~$800 I can get a brand new 180 gallon tank and DIY the overflow, stand, and the sump how I...

Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

Thanks for all the comments! It was a rough year, with the economy as it is schools are seeing a record number of grad school applications as opposed to getting a job. In this department alone they got well over a hundred applicants and only interviewed twenty five of us (including international...

Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

Well, I got my phone call today! After a stressful week of not knowing I have been accepted into the Duke Molecular Genetics and Microbiology grad school program. That means sometime between May and July of this year my tank has to take a journey pretty much across the entire United States. Wish...

    Blue Jaw TriggerFish

I would agree with this about most of the angels and the like, but all the Xanthicthys triggerfish are planktivores and have a completely differently shaped jaw then their trigger brothers and are not adapted for taking chomps out of corals. Its like the how all the Genicanthus angels and the...

    Blue Jaw TriggerFish

They should be good. If you are going with a male female pair you might want to have them be the only larger fish in you're tank. Some of my smaller fish were scared of my sargassum when I added him, but he has never chased a single fish and eventually they all warmed up to him.

    How to get fish

I see that you're in Pullman, so I can give some good advice. Pets are People Too has decent fish, I bought a small pair off Occ clownfish from them and they paired up very nicely in my tank and host a large head of frogspawn. In fact, since I got my Picasso clownfish i have been trying to sell...

Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

The Algae from May to July came from transferring algae covered rocks from my 38 gallon (not enough skimming in that tank) along with some new-ish rocks that hadn't been cured enough before I added them. Chemicals in the water were fine (no detectable nitrates/phosphates) but there were so much...

Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

I've been wanting to do this for awhile, but I just now took the time to go back through all of my pictures. FTS progression time! 5/5/09 - Started filling the tank! 5/11/09 - All of my old livestock transferred, everything pissed off. 5/21/09 - Going through my algae outbreak. 7/9/09 -...

    Arrivals 2/2-2/5

This is probably way too much to ask, but I have been looking for a smaller FEMALE spotted mandarin for over six months now. I would be able to pay Friday night but couldn't pick up until Sunday morning (I'm an out of town customer, we discussed this arrangement in the Midnight Madness sale...

Thank you! I really like wrasses now. I think I'm going to try and pick up a fairy wrasse in the near future, but you really have to see them in person before you buy because they can be so variable.

Guess what, I have more pictures! For some reason both of my tangs like eating off of the sand, sometimes even more so then the rocks. Its also crazy to see the black coming in on my picasso clowns.

    Midnight Madness Sale Feb. 5th

This sounds like a cool sale, and coincidentally I happen to be going over to Seattle that weekend. Unfortunately, I have a bunch of stuff to do before I leave Sunday for the six hour drive back to Pullman. Would you be able to hold anything until Sunday morning? I ask because I bought one of...
