    I bought a aquarium to keep my mind off smoking. Got my first tank a little over 4 years ago & had my last cig a little over 4 years ago. So far it has worked but now I am to broke to maintain medical insurance, thanks God I quit smoking............

    How deep sand beds work

    Very interesting, how long does a DSB stay healthy assuming the tank is maintained & what exactly is a Detrovior kit? My son in law just set up a 180 6 months ago & fights cyano & then hair & then cyano & then hair. What should his "Detrovior kit" consist of? Thanks

    Maybe I should figure out how & where to put a gate valve on this thing. The gate valve must replace the wedge pipe right.

    Thanks for the replies guys. I do have a ATO in the sump so water level runs consistent for the most part. I don't think I can achieve less than 7" of water though due to the sump design it self. Can I put something under the skimmer to raise it higher in the water? Is the bottom of sump to top...

    I have a SWC 250A & find it very hard to regulate. It sits in 7" of water & if that changes even the slightest bit it overflows. The foam head either is just below the top of neck & not spewing over, or overflowing if I barely adjust the wedge. Does any body have this problem & if so, how did...

    Red Velvet Algae

    Yes my algae is like red/purple velvet, fuzzy looking. It did not bother me & we did not add the powder blue to combat the algae. Yes powder blues are hard to keep, maybe they need that fuzzy algae to be happy. Algae is mowed flat & even eradicated in most areas.

    I had some algae that looked like that. I added a powder blue tang that loves the stuff.It spread slowly untill the powder blue was added, now it just exists in check.

    the tank looks pretty good to me, I know that water changes were key to getting my nitrates in check.
