Been there, done that and it worked very well.

    Salinity meter

Salinity is quite easy to read electronically depending on what you want to do with the information. If you want to monitor the value then look into conductivity probes and most of the controllers on the market have one available in some form or another. I use the one connected to the Neptune...

    Discussion on Controllers

I checked around on the DA forum of another website and the threads there pretty much confirm that you cannot control and program using the NET module. Some threads talk about how to setup software running on a PC to gateway through to the controller but that is all I was able to find that...

    Discussion on Controllers

As I recall DA does not support remote control via the network and their update (firmware) process are very different and requires connecting modules directly to a PC so there are some very different things as far as how the different controllers are maintained over time.

    Discussion on Controllers

Probes are as accurate as your calibration and as well as you maintain them (frequent cleaning and calibration == more accurate readings). The temperature probe comes factory calibrated to a NIST standard and is very accurate; ORP, unless you plan to use O3 doesn't really need to be calibrated...

    Discussion on Controllers

I'll tell you what I'll do... I have a test Apex that you can play with; I keep it around for developing software utilities for the public(see kenargo.com). For the next week or so I won't be using the Apex for anything so I'll send you connection information if you PM me and you can see the...

    Discussion on Controllers

The Apex is a base + modules connected using an AquaBus. AquaBus is an industrial communications bus system. There are a number of base comfigurations but adding additional modules is as simple as connecting into the AquaBus (e.g., if you want to run an additional tank, add more display units...

    Discussion on Controllers

I've been using Neptune equipment sonce the beginning of controllers (over 13 years) and have never been dissapointed at my decision and in fact the controller has saved my tank on more occasions than I can count. With the release of the Apex a bit over a -1/2 years ago I upgraded my main tank...

    Vinegar Solution

At risk of damaging my pumps I will stick to what the manaufacturer says. They said the same thing for people asking about a 1/10 mix but that may be more of a company line that fact based. Personally, I'd prefer to use it to clean my Tunze as I agree that it would clean them quicker but if a...

    Vinegar Solution

Tunze disagrees with your statement; as I mentioned I have not tried it but Tunze expressly says that muriatic acid will damage Tunze pumps. I think if statements are to be made that others might read and take as fact that they should be backed by correct information supported by the vendor...

    Vinegar Solution

Some plasics will swell with muriatic acid (I've heard Tunze pumps have this problem) and the PH is only slighly lower than vinegar so it doesn't work that much faster. Straight vinegar has a PH of 2.5; plenty low enough to disolve even the most hard calcium given time.

What type of protein skimmer do you use?

Bubble-King 300 internal decked out with a self-cleaning head attachment (what can I say, I like any toys that make life easier).

Bubbles in the tank from the skimmer

Can you get a better picture of the skimmer section; focusing on the location that the water exists the skimmer? It might be as easy as connecting a 45 pipe on the skimmer output but from the images it is difficult to tell. Basically, the rock bucket is a tower of water, allowing the bubble to...

Bubbles in the tank from the skimmer

If you are getting bubbles out of a skimmer is usually is an indication one of 3 things; 1) the skimmer has not broken in or 2) that the input pump is pushing more water into the skimmer that it can process (e.g., the water is moving through the skimmer before the bubble column can rise so the...

Bubbles in the tank from the skimmer

Raise the water level in the sump; looking at the images I think the problem is the overflow between the sections. I take it (from the last image) that the return pump is the lar right chamber and the skimmer is the far left? Also, if you can have the skimmer output be under water (or just at...

Bubbles in the tank from the skimmer

Not neccisarily true; there are many things in a tanks that don't take kindly to being covered with tiny air bubbled. Sponge can die and some corals can have their ability to consume food disrupted by air bubbles. Yes, true, there are many things not affected but it isn't 100%,

Bubbles in the tank from the skimmer

The pictures look like the retrun pump is sucking in air but hard to tell without some sump pictures. Your sump; do you have a baffle between the section containing the skimmer and the section with the return pump or are they in the same section? If you turn off the skimmer; does the problem...

    clams not looking good.

Wrasse; yup, found your problem... I have a beautiful clam (about 10" wide) that now lives in my refug because it was easier to catch the clam than the wrasse:(

    clams not looking good.

It isn't looking good but it doesn't appear that the mantel has separated either so it might recover if you can figure the cause. Add carbon, water change if possible; basically anything that can remove the possibility of water born contaminate. Do you see any snails; small, shapped like a...

    clams not looking good.

They live a lot longer than 8 years old... Being shut can indicate a few things; it could be that something is picking on it (and you happen to be seeing it when it is closed). It could mean something in the environment is causing harm or any number of other issues (some good and some not so...
