    Dreaded Aiptasia

I've tried several things over the years, I can't tell you how many peppermint shrimp I have purchased only to be disappointed by their performance. I've been told that if you get the pepperment shrimp and place him in a separate tank with a rock that has aptasia he will eventually eat it...

    Another ID request

Here's a colony I thought were pink wagon wheels, but the more I look at them on coralpedia the less I agree with that. Not really sure what to think on these. The second picture is a small colony that I picked up dirt cheap, and I'm just curious as to the name also.

    Cleaning Halide Bulbs and/or Glass

Like I said, the vinegar works great. Even on the glass that shields HQI bulbs. When the salt gets really baked on it cuts right through. Just make sure to follow up with alcohol to break down the residue.

    Please Identify

Here are a few more that I was trying to figure out. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs206.ash2/46923_1431174131799_1006239546_30985196_3707333_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs154.ash2/41047_1431174251802_1006239546_30985197_3136833_n.jpg

    decided to go with leds

If they work as well as everyone is claiming - I can't see why anyone would use halides!? You still get the glitter/strobe effect with LED's too. Per one of the previous questions - i'm curious too about how to wire up the dimmer and how to calculate how many LED's to use per the area of the...

    Cleaning Halide Bulbs and/or Glass

So I had a couple halide bulbs with salt splatter on them, and had always heard that if you touched the bulbs the oil from your hands would cause the heat to concentrate in one spot and the bulb would burst. I found a great way to clean the salt off (which may be common knowledge to some) but I...

    Jesse's 40B with 20L sump

Just out of curiosity, I noticed the overflow line leading to the sump is submerged. Are you concerned about airlocking the line or is there enough water flow to push the air out? I've had similar designs in the past, and it has caused my overflow to make a bubbling noise as the air escapes...

    DIY wavemaker timer?

I'm looking for plans to build a DIY wavemaker/timer for 4 powerheads. I guess my first question is will it be cheaper to do it this way vs. buying one new?

    Calcium Magnesium question

what corals other than chalices consume high amounts of Mg?

Weird Critter In My Live Rock.

They reproduce quickly - eat fast, and when they die their shells are really pretty inside.

    Coralife Skimmer Mods

So is the biggest problem with the skimmer the tube leading into the collection cup from the reaction chamber? The sedra pump seems decent.

    Calcium Magnesium question

Is it safe to assume that if my Calcium stays consitantly at 460-480ppm with a 2 part additive that my Magnesium levels are good without dosing Magnesium? Is there enough contained in IO salt to suppliment with regular water changes? I don't notice major drops in my ppm of Calcium when I stop...

    Phosphate vs. SPS

Thanks again for all of the response. In my limited knowledge of the actual "chemistry" that goes into reefkeeping, I am aware that elevated phosphate slows the corals ability to deposit calcium. I have been doing months of research/reading to better understand the actual "science" behind the...

    Please Identify

Thanks for all the feedback! I have others that I'm trying to photograph, but the colors are really affected by the lighting on my tank. I have what I believe is a colony of pink wagon wheels, but everytime I take the pictures the pink looks white :/

    Phosphate vs. SPS

I agree I need more flow, but this tank is not just SPS and I didn't want to over-do the flow for the other corals. I've had SPS frags for years, but this is a new problem. I'm mainly wanting to see if anyone believes the phosphates have this kind of affect. I like the feedback though! :)

    Phosphate vs. SPS

temp is about 78-80, no fish currently in this system - frag system. Lighting is 2 250w 14K HQI. Flow is 1 sedra 350gph and 1 emperor filter (probably 300gph). This system is a 55 gal - not my main system. No substrate in the bottom of this tank, but i have a 10 gal. gravity fed container w/...

    Phosphate vs. SPS

I am using DI water - my TDS reading is incoming water @ 175 with my output at 0. I don't have a Mg test kit at the moment :( so I can't give you an answer on that.

    Phosphate vs. SPS

Having several SPS frags die lately - not sure whats causing it. My phosphate levels are reading .5, Alkalinity is 8, salinity 1.025, Nitrate 0, Calcium 480, PH 8.3. I know the phosphates are high, but would that cause the overnight bleaching? So far this week two deepwater acro and 1...
