    natural sea water vs. homemade

chances are if he lives in new york when the water gets up to tropical temperature all those spores and parasites will die off. his only real problem is pollution and apparently there isnt much of a problem there.

    natural sea water vs. homemade

i think if you live on the coast in somewhere with pristine natural seawater go for it, but if you dont its just not worth it to spend so much more for it. it wont have that many benefits if any to be worth the extra $.

What is the best tank for a pico setup?

i do agree the beauty is not just the fish and coral within, it has to be presented to the onlooker cleanly, thats what a stand or canopy helps you do. but then you cant show off your lighting and thats why we have rimless tanks.

What is the best tank for a pico setup?

this is how i mounted my panorama fixture. and again there are alot of rinless tanks that have very sleek beautiful looking light hanging kits and such. i believe that sort of thing looks way better than a hood or canopy.

    First fish

i understand where you are coming from, i have had parasites and dieases introduced through not doing qt but most die with the freshwater dip. when i first entered this hobby i didnt even dip or qt. and i had probably one of the best tanks i have ever had. i think its entirely chance. but i...

    T5 or Power Compact

at one point t5 and pc were comparable, but the t5 fixtures have gotten so much more efficient and bright that no one uses pc's anymore. the only really efficient pc lights are the ones with the reflectors built into the bulbs. but still not comparable to t5's.

    First fish

the onlyy fish i ever qt are tangs, only because they are so prone to parasites. i believe its better just to get the fish in the tank and deal with any thing they have then have the risk of them dying going through the stress of switching tanks over and over again. edit: not saying this is the...

What is the best tank for a pico setup?

for my panorama fixture i hung it from a couple metal brackets with some chain. its easy to do just mount the fixture to a small piece of wood relatively the same size and drill hooks into that then hang it with some cheap chain from the local hardware store.

    First fish

i would be sure the tank is fully established as blue faced angels are anything but hardy. very sensitive to water params and pretty finicky eaters. but overalll beautiful fish and a great one to have expecially for a first fish. i wish you the best of luck.

What is the best tank for a pico setup?

i also have used par38 bulbs and they work great, i would suggest boostled or ecoxotic. or there is rapid led. also consider the panorama modules. they are pretty cheap and offer great lighting options.

What is the best tank for a pico setup?

i took a marineland led minibow tank and put a hang on bakck filter on it and a heater inside and it does great. it is now stable enough i plan on adding my first sps very soon.

some pics of my dwarf seahorses tanks!

i did have a small frag of kenya tree in there for a while, but id ecided to move it back. i have never had a gorg before do they require any special care? i was also under the impression they were not entirely photosynthetic?

some pics of my dwarf seahorses tanks!

yes i see no need for a filter, the tank has had perfect params for about 4 months and this is how ive run every one of the 6 or so dwarf tanks i have had. water changes imo are the best form of filtration. filters just make it so we can wait longer between each change. i usually keep the tank...

some pics of my dwarf seahorses tanks!

i just do water changes and keep the water flowing with a small air pump. its almost impossible to filter because even if i put screan over the intake the babies still get sucked in and the adults attach to it like a magnet. the one tank came with a top, so i used it. the other tank doesnt so i...

is gorgeous but what anemone is this?

i havekept several ritteri anemones in the past, i have seen some that do look almost like that but they are fairly rare, usually the common color is brownish tentacles with a purplish base. im guessing its a lta or bta.

is gorgeous but what anemone is this?

definitely not a ritteri, could either be a bta or lta, i have seen either that look nearly identical. its not a great pic tho.

    finally got the panorama mounted

i have a par38 bulb, this was actually to replace that because the actinics like burned out on that fixture. i could use that to accent the blue?

    finally got the panorama mounted

well i have no idea where to begin with that, but before i got it i checked at the lfs who has one on their picos and the par was around 200 in the middle of the tank so i thought i would be fine.

    finally got the panorama mounted

its not quite that blue, but apparently they discontinued the fixture with the daylight led's. so i guess im out of luck but its not too bad. you get used to it. and like i said its not as intense a blue as in the pic.
