    I have some black encrusting sponge that is hard as can be and I suppose could look like a monti somewhat. if i think about it I will take a pic tomorrow when the lights come on...... its not a invasive sponge and actually is a super slow grower

    are you talking about a cover over your tank?? If so, you dont want one there anyway. it restricts gas exchange. open top is how it should be without any cover directly over the tank unless it is something like eggcrate to prevent any jumping fish you may have

    most of the digital ones are perfectly accurate...the calibration is just off from unit to unit. personally I use pinpoint ones but they are all off a copuple of degrees from each other. what you do is get a glass of ice and fill it with water.....stir it for 30 seconds with the probe in it...
