    Pappone vs. Coral Frenzy

as for particle size... only the smallest fraction of corals kept in the hobby cannot eat items like cylop-eeze, golden pearls, coral-frenzy and the like. Very few people statistically keep Acroporids compared to the gamut of other larger polyped corals that can in fact eat the aforementioned...

    Pappone vs. Coral Frenzy

Hmm... are we all clear that the better part of (but still likely less than, admittedly) .2ppm phospate is required for the health of most corals that transfer phosphate/nitrogen to their host algae... without which said algae will die, in part/perhaps, from CO2 poisoning... like when folks get...

    Anemone on the move.

let me add my welcome too :) and to (re-emphasize with the above advice overall: anemones (like most reef inverts) move because they are not getting adequate light or water flow. Actually, its often the lack of food (by light or water flow) that causes the move... but you get the drift, yes? :)

hard coral, not sure of species

the corallum here bears a strong resemblence to Hydnophora species, as best I can tell. Please proffer a full frame image of a corallite or just a few if possible.

New Reef magazine! - from Anthony

Ive chatted with Powell's in the past. The problem is that many such larger distributors are used to dealing with larger publishers that print overseas. Without foreign labor, I cannot afford to sell to many distributors. They want/need to purchase books/mage for less than it costs me to print...

    axial fragging question

When making wafers... you will see that someone like myself that is absolutely militant about monocultures, QT and conditioning (not even thinking about fragging a coral that is less than 4 months established and has been power fed) has little to no mortality whatsoever with such small frags...

    Anemone frag fest

any single edge blade is better than scissors (crushing action) Razor blade... scalpel... e-xacto knife, etc

    axial fragging question

you are very welcome my friend... and thanks for the kind words :) As for the smaller frag sizes... no, it snot allelopathy principally (though it is an influence) that increases morbidity and mortality in frags, its the smaller mass of living tissue that is less able to sustain injury and...

    Mystery Coral - ID please

chiming in late... but Galaxea sp. gets my vote too

    Rhodactis propagation techniques, what's best?

the full length gloves are too cumbersome to do fine cutting work with. Do just get some latex gloves at the pharmacy :)

I need to trim my xenia

perhaps Xenia umbellata (or thats at least the name you will see most in hobby literature)

    brain budding?

the bubble is stress induced (unquestionably... this reproductive strategy only occurs under duress) and may be from general allelopathic irritation... but is more likely from the closest neighbor or closest upstream noxious (cnidarian) neighbor IMO. Consider ozone use with carbon to stave off...

    Rhodactis propagation techniques, what's best?

play it safe, my friend... a simple, single bilateral split with a razor blade or scalpel. Wear eye protection... keep your mouth closed <G>... and wear latex gloves (if you are not allergic) :)

    New products I picked up

if you really must have/spur corallines... do seek Seachem's (great brand... they actually do R&D) "Reef Calcium" (calcium polygluconate). Used as directed... it stimulates slow and steady coralline growth. Within 3-4 months you will be pleased.

    Coral Food

this is a prime example of the peril of speaking in (gross) generalizations like "softy" or "sps" or in this case, "mushrooms" Some corallimorphs (Rhodactis) are voracious organismal feeders... and other corallimorpharians (Ricordea florida) eat next to nothing organismally. Is it any surprise...

    Ever see this

correct... messentrials that are only expressed under stress. Some aspect of water quality (noxious neighbors, lack of adequate water changes over time, temperature spike, etc)

I need to trim my xenia

if you don't want the colony wholly removed, then yes... you can cut a branch off the stalk very much like a tree (the only exception is if its Heteroxenia... they can be sensitive to large cuts)

    Hard clear red tubes

another lil red guy commonly seen is the foram.

    Urchin spawning stress related?

it would not take much at all to stress induce a spawn. Just a spike in salinity from a tardy evap top off (or water change with temp difference). Even a slight injury (bumping or tearing the urchin away from anchored tube feet) can do it. Tearing a bristleworm in half, for example, often...

    opinions on overfeeding?

indeed... even the largest LPS eat some of the smallest plannkton on the reef. Large chunks of anything rarely make it past the eyballs on the reef. Feed your corals ultrafine matter to be safe.
