    Advice Needed Quick!!

It's not that everything is wrong...but the return line on the side that popped off is considerably shorter than the other...the return pump sits on left side of the sump, creating more pressure on that side...we are due for the 1st water change on Wednesday...and the tank is finally cycled...

    Advice Needed Quick!!

To avoid me selling it all in anger over losing a fish:evil: , I need some advice. Last night one side of my supply "T" coming from the return pump broke loose:eek: , before anyone asks...it was siliconed with aquarium safe silicone. This spooked our most "pet-like" fish the True Perc Clown...

    Do I have enough flow

So if I read that thread right, there is a big difference between the open loop flow and the total turnover once you include the powerheads in the tank? If that's correct than all I need to do is increase the PH size which is "relatively" inexpensive and can be done over time since we aren't...

    Do I have enough flow

We recently set up a 150 AGA, twin megaflows rated @ 1200gph. We have a MAG 18 operating at about 3ft head and 3 250gph powerheads located @ on the sides and back of the tank @ opposing angles. Our "plan" is to have mainly LPS, but of course a few SPS will likely make it in and maybe a softie...

Is a reef-ready tank really necessary?

Well from one newbie to another...listen to these guys advice!!:) We spent MANY hours talking to folks here before setting ours up and @ one time had decided to put it off completely because our "dream tank" was simply to expensive. Less than a week later we found it used with a stand for...

Fish stocking for first tank....what to do!?

He lives! I (the light sleeping wife) am amazed that our Blenny made it after that dive out of the tank. After spending 2 hrs up watching him, I didn't think he would. He is chomping on the rocks and leaving his little kiss marks as I type. How cute! I know, very girl. Any suggestions on...

Fish stocking for first tank....what to do!?

a few pics of the crew Here are the first pics of our marine crew in their new home. Apologies for the picture quality. Absent are the Lawnmower Blenny, and Royal Gramma, they have taken to hiding in the rocks.

Fish stocking for first tank....what to do!?

I can second the notion of Blenny's being hardy!! We brought home our first fish for our tank last night. 1 Perc Clown, 1 Purple and Yellow Gramma, and 1 Lawnmower Blenny. All was well until about midnight-ish when my wife heard a "squeak" coming from the other room and got up to...

    Algae...friend...foe...or necessary evil

No mine definetly does not look like the one in those pics...it is just tiny air bubbles on the algae at the edges of growth. As the tanks only been up with the Live Rock for a week tomorrow...I'm probably just going through a bloom stage and being really paranoid. Hopefully removing the...

    pump mounting

my mag 18 is sitting on the bottom of the sump with the rubber pad attached and is pretty quiet.

    Algae...friend...foe...or necessary evil

Here are a few pics of the algae I mentioned in a different thread earlier this morning. Am I correct in thinking we should leave this alone and eventually the cleaning crew (10 snails, 10 crabs) will eventually get to it...or should we be cleaning it off and removing it somehow? Thanks for...

    Green algae

Algae "Stages" So if someone could 'splain the different stages and when the tank will be "mature" it would be a great help. I think we are either between stages or have a few stages going on @ the same time. I have the "red tint" stuff on my sump plumbing, brown on the rocks...and also...

    Holding up during the flooding

Just a quick line to all our friends on the west side to see how y'all are holding up over there with all the water? Hope everyone is A-ok and all wet friends have been moved safely to higher ground!!:)

How long before algae grows in new tank

We added the live sand last Wed., live rock on Fri....waiting until algae begins to grow to add anything like the cleaners etc. Just wondering what the ballpark is or some generality?

    Finally!!

Lights...Rock...and...action!...almost Here are some new pics after adding the rock and lights. The rock was built up blindly as the water was quite milky when we put them in...but we think it's a good first effort none the less. Some VERY tense moments while searching for studs in a 60yr old...

    Finally!!

hopefully this weekend we are adding the rock and buying the lights. Our LFS guy who happens to be a RF staffer is suggesting this stuff that has alot of tiny holes and "see-throughs" when held up to light...he says we could use about half of the usual lbs (1 per gallon) and get pretty good...

    Finally!!

It's Alive....ALIVE:D Not beautiful yet....but up and running...and not ver much stinkin room in the cabinet for ANYTHING except the 55. I could've planned it a little better...but for a virginal effort...I'll take it. Feel free to comment but be gentle...between this and work I haven't...

    SuperGlue usage??

Is it safe to use in tank or not? Thinking about using it to attach suction cups to powerheads unless someone has a better idea?:p

    Resident plumbing pro needed

ok...last question for awhile...I promise. what's everyones opinion on seperate drains into the sump. Should they remain seperate, be joined together via a "Y" and the new single drain be more diameter...is there a reason to send one drain somewhere else?

    Resident plumbing pro needed

but ball valve on the return line? Good or bad? Would allow for "throttle-back" of the return pump? Also I've never used a skimmer before. The pump on the Urchin suck water in, which goes through the injector spray nozzle...bubbles for in the main chamber...skimmate goes to the cup @...
