Refugium size vs tank size & macro algae

my two cents, better late than never Let us not forget another very real purpose of a refugium, microfauna "refuge". In order for this to be signifantly effective the "refuge" needs to be upstream from the display tank. I have experimented with many different refugiums over the years and have...

    Oceanic tanks temperd?

Oceanic "reef ready" tanks are drilled on the bottom but the glass is excessivly thick, I have seen those cube tanks before and the bottoms are not too thick. IMO if your going to drill, drill the side. :)

    my new micro machine

Well, my back to back system has been taken down and after selling 95% of my livestock. Because I just can't live without a reef tank I setup a very simple 20g tall to house the remainder of my corals(and a few from Tracy;):D). The system has a large HOB CPR fuge with live sand taken from my...

    Best skimmer for a 30g?

You should jump on that one! That size would make it easy for you to add a HOB skimmer later if you wanted to do so. :D

    Fragging a Florida ric?

Pedal laceration without actually seperated the polyp into 2 pieces is the safest way. Start a cut at the mouth and slice out. I have done this with hairy mushrooms with much success.;)

    95 in Seattle mid week....

I have had heat spikes in the past around 85 degrees with no problems and that was in a heavily (expensive) populated tank. If your chiller keeps you at 77 degrees on a 85 degree day then I would say opening all possible windows with a fan or two in the room on a 95 degree day should keep you...

    95 in Seattle mid week....

I know this doesn't help you now but if your chiller can't do the job in peak summer heat then bottom line it's too small. I played the "undersized chiller" game for a while and IMO it would be a good idea for you to sell that chiller this winter and get a bigger one for next summer. To help...
