Any suggestions for steering a noob?

I have a 72g reef and have my eye on that msx 160 skimmer as well. I second that a skimmer is a good idea and that if those are actually nano koralias you want more flow. If you end up getting a good skimmer I'd ditch the canister filter. Not neccesary and supposedly they are nitate factories...

    Thanks to Jobiwan

Joe, your tank is unbelievable I can only hope to be lucky enough to get to come back again someday and see it when it's all grown in. I am humbled by your kindness. May all your tanks thrive forever. Matt

what light for a 46g 36" SPS tank

I think most people will tell you that t5s are ok for SPS. Personally if I were going to spend money on new lighting I'd def. go with Mh. I ordered one of the inexpensive ones (Odessya). Some people rag on them but they've worked pretty gooo for me so far (and for a lot of other reefers). kinda...

    Massive Tank

How in the world can you not make that a shark reef? And yet somebody on the forums would probably still flame you for having sharks in to small a tank

Deep Tanks and their lighting issues

Here's what it took David Saxby to light his reef tank that's 48" deep. Being that you're in Dallas I'm pretty sure skylights would be the way to go. http://www.ultimatereef.com/TOTM/2007_jan/

Deep Tanks and their lighting issues

I get scared thinking of the $$ for salt for the water changes, nevermind the rest. If I had a tank with that much volume in a custom home I'd at least want to be able to house a shark.

I need a ID of this crab

Not to hijack your thread but I recently saw something similar in my tank. Same shape but white and a little larger than my thumbnail. Just caught a fleeting glimpse of him moving into a piece of liverock. Right now I think he's too small to cause a lot of mischief but when he gets bigger who knows?

    UV sterilizer question

Hmm, I had though Ozone was something that required bulky expensive equipment and was really only for large tanks. Can someone point me to a link for something appropriate for a 72g bow? bear in mind that I have limited space under the tank due to the shape. Thanks

    Once you add Peppermint Shrimp

I would use Kalkpaste on the larger aiptaisia first to get rid of most of them. The peppermints don't seem to like the larger aiptasia too much. This way they only have to contend with the little ones.

Your tanks are looking great, how long have they been running?

    its making me soooooo mad

IMO two overflows + good idea (redundancy, less noise). two sumps = bad idea. It seems everyone who tries it has problems synching them. Is there a way you could use just one sump with two return lines going into it? and then have one larger return pump take the water back into the display tank?

    UV sterilizer question

Thanks, after reading that I think I'll just go with a smaller cheaper model and see If I like it.

    UV sterilizer question

So I think I'm gonna get me one. I"m looking at the coralife ones and was wondering If it can be to big. The reasoning would be that if it works well I can reuse it in the future lager tank I'm already planning in my head...
