    90 gallon: Stand on wheels

I'm about to do some overhauling to my aquarium which will include drilling for a sump as well as a closed loop system. While my fish (no coral at this time) are in my quaratine tank for a few weeks, I will basically be tearing down the tank in order to drill it. While doing so, I've come up...

    Drilling & Closed Loop?

Thanks, Scooter! I figured on doing it that way. I still don't understand how finn doesn't have water coming out unless the cap isn't drilled but I think it was his idea to drill the cap anyway. Whenever I do it, I'm going have the cap extend about 6 inches above the waterline. I just...

    Drilling & Closed Loop?

Krish, How did you attach the thumbnail? I know I saw that somewhere a few weeks ago but can't seem to find the directions now.

Thanks, guys! That clears everything up! I'm sort of like you krish...I love pics! Pictures are worth a thousand words! I think that's it until I start trying to make my overflow cover! Merry Christmas!

    Drilling & Closed Loop?

Krish and The Apprentice, All of it was a big help; however, I'm still at a lost as far as where (height below waterline) I need to drill the holes? I'm scared of breaking or messing up a perfectly good tank so needless to say I'm trying to be very cautious and exact with this plan. I'm...

    Drilling & Closed Loop?

Jeff, What size hole do you have drilled for the intake? And at what height below your waterline? And I'm assuming that you only have one hole drilled for the intake? Thanks for the help!

    Drilling & Closed Loop?

http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13588 I was looking over krish's Closed Loop DIY thread...again. I saw that krish was disappointed with the Mag 9.5 for his closed loop diy which raised some questions with me. I've decided to drill the back of my 90 gallon tank (bottom...

Water change pH/Temp matching w/ tank?

I would say that it is very important to match the temperature and pH. Any shift in temp, salinity, and pH can stress the fish, thereby making it susceptible to parasites, etc. I match the temperature and pH everytime I perform water changes. When mixing my water in a 55 gal container, I...

Need somebody to fix my MJMods

David, If you ever get them fixed, please let me know what the trick was. I'm having the same problem with 2- MJ900 mods. :( I've tried one with the soft tubing way and one with the carbon way to no avail. Thank goodness I bought 2- Seio 1500 before I tried the mod. My tank would have...

Help on choosing a test kit

As everyone said, the Salifert kits appear to be the most reliable ones around. They cost a little more but are well worth it considering the cost of your fish and coral. No sense in trying to fix something that a cheap kit is telling you that is broke but really wasn't! I would strongly...

    How did you learn

I learned a lot of good things from the books but also some old, outdated things as well! I learned that wet/dry filters were good from the books. Then I spent $250 on an Eheim 2229 Wet/dry filter which seem to work perfectly but I later learned was a big waste due to its high nitrate...

    1st time refugium

Mountaindew, I would be interested in seeing a picture of it setup once you get it up and running. FYI: It looks like it should be a 10 gallon tank from my calculations instead of an 18 gallon as stated in the auction. Thanks and good luck!

    Nitrate??

You don't use any biobale. If you are able to add more live rock, that will house the beneficial bacteria that your bio bale would hold. The bio bales and filter socks hold in detrius which are nitrate "factories." -Dennis

Setup my 90 gal with mostly diy

Dobly, Looks good! I'm working on a 90 gallon myself with some instructional help from a few people on here. Any chance of some pics of your sump, reactor, & skimmer? What type of pumps are you using? Flow? Good luck! Dennis  Oh ,yeah! Welcome to Reef Frontiers!!! The best site I...

    PhosReactor ?

Krish, I was just thinking and not doing....again! Do you forsee any pressure or "head" problems with that MaxiJet 400? I'm looking to set it up in a pre-skimmer box in my display tank and run the 2 - PhosReactors in the bottom cabinet. Then it'll have to flow 2-3 ft upwards back into the...

    PhosReactor ?

Hey Krish! My tank is still looking pretty rough but I'm building up a pretty good attack plan. Hopefully, I can implement that plan before my wife kills me! She has very little patience if any! But I seem to be doing more reading and planning than acting! However, I did add 2- Seio 1500 to...

    PhosReactor ?

I have a major nuisance algae problem in my 90 gallon FOWLR. I'm in the process of slowly removing a Eheim 2229 wet/dry canister filter and Marineland Emperor 400 w/ Bio-wheel removed. In addition to lowering the nitrates, I'm also doing this to clean up the interior of my tank. I'm...

    can you help me?

Use RO water Also, don't use treated tap water! Nuisance algae loves tap water! Use Reverse Osmosis (RO) or Distilled Water. You want your water to contain as little Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) as possible, preferably 0! -Dennis
