When a critter molts its exoskeleton...

Or you could remove it very carefully, show it to the wife and tell her it died. Maybe then she will feel sorry for you and let you buy another. :D

where to buy fish on line

I like to buy from saltwaterfish.com. They have free shipping on purchases of $78 or more which I have not been able to find anywhere. They also have a 15 day garantee which I can't get anywhere locally. The biggest draw back to all of this is they are always out of stock on a lot of stock as...

    best re-aquascape

I have a 29gal tank that I put a heater and maxijet in for my corals and then put my rock in a couple of rubbermaid tubs. Works good for me. Thank goodness I've only had to do it a couple of times over the last 3 years. Good luck!

    I was reading...

The Gulf of Mexico average water temperature ranges from about 77F to 82F so I would not be too leary about Turbos from there. I have 4 Mexican Turbo Snails that do just great in my tank. Have not heard of cool water species but I'm sure someone will have more knowledge of that than me. Sorry...

    Goby ID Please

Do a google on Coryphopterus glaucofrenum and see what you think. I'm not sure whether your camera is capturing all of the true colors. Good luck.

    hydnophora

The Coral/Invert gallery has a few photos you can compare with. Also a google search brings up many. Try a google search on Hydnophora exesa and see if yours looks anything like that.

    New to the hobbie

Welcome to RF. I agree with Charlie in regards to Kevin and Aquatic Dreams. He is unmatched to his dedication and service toward the Aquatic community. And he knows his stuff! Best LFS in the area. (Kevin: mail the check to my PO box) :)

    Number of fish in aquarium?

Well, you could try and take it back to your LFS. If they truly made a mistake telling you it was reef safe they shouldn't have a problem taking it back. If they are like some and just wanted to make a sale, you may be out of luck. Worth a try anyway. Good luck.

    Number of fish in aquarium?

The Whitespotted Puffer is omnivorous, meaning it eats both meaty fares and plant matter. It feeds on a wide range of crustaceans, echinoderms and invertebrates, such as sponges, tunicates, polychaetes, bryozoans, sea urchins, brittle stars, crabs, peanut worms, shrimps, zoanthids, fishes...

    can you help me?

I would say you only need 3 things to get started in this great hobby; 1. Money 2. Money 3. Money After that, everything is downhill. :)

    sump pump

Dave, Your right, your pump is rated at over 8000 LPH, but that is at 0 metres of head meaning that the intake of the pump will be at the same level as the discharge. Unfortunately, that is not normally the case with aquariums. I'm guessing that most people have their sumps directly under their...

    sump pump

Your right . . . I was calculating in reverse. I knew there was a reson I flunked math. :)

    sump pump

I think it would depend on what you are going to use your tank for. Other factors to consider is how much head pressure you will have going back to your tank as well as the associated plumbing, i.e. 90 degree elbows will reduce your rate of flow if you have too many. A healthy tank water turn...

    R.o. Water

I would hope everyone's RO water would be free of impurities :), else it's filter changing time. Best way to check though is with a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter.

    R.o. Water

I store my RO water in a 25gal (food grade) container without heater or powerhead. I use this for top off water. The water going into my sump at one time is so minimal I am not worried about temp. For water changes, I have another 25gal tank containing my saltwater which does have a heater and...

Help! I need a very quiet pump for my closed loop?!?!

    MBV = Motorized Ball Valve

    Do I have enough flow

At 3' of head, your Mag 18 is only going to give you 1500gph at best, according to man. charts. Take into consideration any elbows and so forth you have in your plumbing, and that will reduce the gph slightly more. You may want to look into getting a Sequence pump or the equivelent. I run a...
