    Removing Gravel = Less Maintenance?

I have a 60 barebottom, and at first, I really thought It was going to be a perfect match fro what I was trying to do. But even with a small bioload, and only 2-3 fish, the detritus accumulates rapidly. I have had it running for about a year now, and i am having hair algea problems. I was...

    mad at myself/suicidel fish?

well, I got a really nice lawnmower blenny, a pretty big one in fact on friday. I was a bit stunned at the color, it was a much better looking fish then I have seen in the past. I was thrilled at what a large and healthy one I was able to get. Well, fast forward to about 20 minutes ago, when I...

    whats going on here?

My milliphora accidently got knocked around the other day. The backside had a branch break off, but the front looks like it is doing something. Its sending out "tenticles". Not sure what is going on.

Did my coral shrimp kill my emerald crab or did it molt?

What I noticed first was that the eye sockets are totally intact in the back. Theres no way his eyes "molted" forward lol.

    Toms opinion on instant ocean

Speaking of salt- Does anyone use the NSW from the seattle aquarium? Some guy that came over to get frags was doing that. Seems like so much work and high risk.

    Toms opinion on instant ocean

I used the Marine environment for my water change today. It really didn't dissolve as well as instant ocean. Even with a mag drive 7 mixing it. I also noticed much larger particales then what I am used to seeing.

    Fuge lighting 24/7

yeah, get rid of the grape. IMO that stuff is just not worth messing with. I had some get in my main tank and it is now there for good, I have tried everything to get rid of it. I was keeping my lights on 24/7 for a long time. I finally got nervous that it was wasting power and not being as...

    Toms opinion on instant ocean

When I was in the fish store a few days back, tom, one of the main guys there, gave me quite a statement on instant ocean. paraphrased as falows: instant ocean is actually a low quality salt, all the trace elements are actually contaniments. The consistency is terrible and you never know what...

    Fuge lighting 24/7

for some reason, my mushrooms that have ended up in the fuge didn't have a large problem with the 24/7 light. However, I got rid of that dreaded grape calurpa a long time ago. I can't stand that stuff. Now I have cheato(wire algea) and kelp, and unfourtuneatly hair algea in my fuge. I have...

The joys of finally getting the right fish

Well, I finally got a foxface today. Its been about 6 months or more in the precess of selecting a fish for the tank, to go with the single blue damsel and the barred morey that decided to move downstairs and set up shop permenently in the sump. What is exciting about this, and very forflling...

    Aptasia - Peppermint shrimp

well, I think that is the best scenario. That coral shrimp is a real character. I can't decide who acts tougher, him or the damsel.
