    White Mushrooms??????

So far none of them have expelled anything. At this time, I don't have MH lighting, though. As far as dissolved organics---don't think that is a problem. I have been running all week without my skimmer due to treating the tank with melafix. I recently had two of my fish die due to pop...

    White Mushrooms??????

Anybody dealt with these?? I found a live rock at a LFS yesterday covered with these. How rare are they??? BTW-I did pick up the rock and put it in my tank. Anne

    Is anybody here in....?

Probably the wrong forum to ask this in, but this July my husband will be in Boston for some sort of teacher's union meeting. There is a reasonable chance that I will be able to come with him. Is anybody here in the Boston area????? If so, please email me at [email protected]...

    Barnicles

liveforphysics, I am not sure why they died in your dad's tank and not in your reef tank. The one thing I can think of would be food availability as well as availability of calcium (among other minerals). Does this sound logical??? Anne

    Barnicles

OK, sorry that it has taken so long to get back. I had to go digging for some information. First thing I found is that there are several types---gooseneck, acorn, and branching being just three of them. Apparently they do get a good size because I did see pictures of them being in and on cans...

    Barnicles

Krish, thank you. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Just in case you can't find any, though--the question still stands. This way I have a back up---and I can give my boys some information about them. Anne

    Barnicles

OK, not sure about the spelling, but here is what I need to know. I am sure most of us have seen these huge purple and white shells of them for decorating our aquariums. Are these cold or warm water critters? Anybody know where I can get my paws on some for my son's aquarium? I am thinking...

Bahamian Profiles of reefs, rocks and puddles

I just hope the kids there are learning how important our reefs are to our world. I wish I could do more here to raise reef awareness here in landlocked Kansas. Unfortunately, just don't know how or where to begin and the majority of our local club does not seem that interested. I will keep...

Bahamian Profiles of reefs, rocks and puddles

No, you are not rubbing it in Krish--I am glad that you have the ability to share the photos. Tell you what--if we come into some major money--we'll fly you and your family out when we have a good snowstorm. Guess I just did not think of it that way. Wow-wonder if some fat cat company would...

Bahamian Profiles of reefs, rocks and puddles

Krish-----you are KILLING me, man. All of the kind of stuff I wish my boys could see in real time. No hard feelings. :o) Anne

    When to test?

Macronut, I agree with you. While knowing every little swing of pH in your tank will do nothing but drive you nuts---taking a two week period every now and then to test several times a day can help keep an eye on what your pH range runs and possibly help with diagnostics if need be. Hope this...

New pics of new 70gal tank

As soon as you win that lotto---send us four round trip tickets and we will be there. Man, oh man, do I wish we had the money to come on our own. The thought of the boys being able to explore a real beach on their own is a real strong dream now. Krish, I don't know if you have any children...

    Adding to sand bed

May have to try that trick at some point to see if it works. Anne

    Who scrapes?

Yes, it does. I only scrape the front and part of one side that I have put a couple of decorative shells for critters to hide between them and the glass. When I move everything into the 70 odd gallon in a week I will be scraping the coralline off and adding it to the new tank. I don't have a...

    Who scrapes?

I have a black urchin and I think it has started developing a taste for my hermit crabs.!!!! Thankfully, hermits are fairly cheap. Anne

    Adding to sand bed

I agree, Mike---otherwise he will have a cloudy tank for 2-3 weeks. Oy!!!!!! Not very good for the corals. I have heard it said that the cloudy stuff is the calcium that the tank needs---but my money is on rinsing. Dripping in some kalk is not that difficult. I am getting ready to set up a...

    Is there a trick to....?

The ric has been tied up this way for 3-4 weeks and still has not attached. No--the mushies currently do not have cc in the glass--although that can be changed fairly quickly and easily this evening. Anne
