    Sunlight through a window

Yeah, Calfo has successfully propagated many species of coral including some SPS species in PA. My main consern was the window since it is not greenhouse glazing I did not know how it would effect the spectrum of light from the sun. Thanks for all the links Jason I will be sure to take a look...

    Sunlight through a window

Yeah I have seen the solar tube. Hmm I wonder how work would feel about me cutting holes in the roof :D. I wonder if the plastic used in the solar tubes are anything special that allow increased UV transmission. I think that a lot of windows today have a special compound mixed in to cut back...

    Sunlight through a window

Why not in Indianapolis? If it is no in Indy I am pretty sure it is a no everywhere then because the window is removing the helpful light. Are you saying the windows remove the helpful light?

    Sunlight through a window

I was just wondering if sunlight through a normal window would be sufficient to gor and propagate anemones. I have about 6' of window that I could use to set up various frag tanks and wanted to see if anyone knew if the windows filter out desirable frequencies of light. Well if anyone knows or...

Heteractis Magnifica or Sebae for my percula clowns ?

You should also know that the survival rate for Ritteri anemones is not that great and I would advise you to not to get one unless you have excelent water quality, very strong turbulent flow, and at very intense lighting (I have seen sucess with a 175W MH with 4 x 6' VHO's. This is what I think...

    Anemone Propagation

Good idea Brian. Also I know you had a huge rose at one time. Any chance it has cloned and I can get one from you :). If you do have one that you are willing to sell please let me know.

What and how many pumps for this massive sump

For control of pathogens I would stay away from UV all together. The time and effort it takes to make it effective would be time consuming on a system that size. I would second what Don W said use ozone there is nothing better for pathogen control and it also has many other benifits.

    Anemone Propagation

I do not plan on having any rock in my culturing tank. I will line the tank with indoor/outdoor carpet (the green stuff). I will then use lift tubes for water movement, a sponge filter for biological filtration, and 2 x 55W 10,000K PC's for light. I will feed the anemones every other day and...

    Anemone Propagation

Ok I have chenged my lighting from 4 x 20W NO 5000K bulbs to 2 x 55W PC 10,000K since I already have them and they are brand new. Do you think I would get better growth from the 4 x 20W 5000K bulbs or the 10,000K bulbs.

    Anemone Propagation

Hi Nikki, I have read a lot of information on those forums but I could not find anything reguarding the heater issue and wait time. I just wanted to clarify those before I began my venture. Also do you know anywhere locally where I can get 3 - 4 BTA clones to use for propagation. It is very...

    Anemone Propagation

Hey Anthony, WEll I am taking your advice and am setting up a amenone prop tank. I have access to ~6 40 gallon breeder tanks and will be starting with one of the tanks to see how it goes. I have a few quiestions and then want to see if I have everything that I need. Questions: 1. For a 40...

DIY protein skimmer and Ca Reactor

Actually I do make skimmers and other equipment for people that want them. :)

DIY protein skimmer and Ca Reactor

o gosh, I have no idea it took my about 3 weeks of working between 1 and 4 hours a night to get it done so 30+ hours for the skimmer and reactor. Making a skimmer that large was new for me I can make small skimmers in a few days of only a few hours a night.

DIY protein skimmer and Ca Reactor

Hey Nikki! The reactor has a reaction chamber of 18" tall and I diameter of 6" and is a fluidized media reactor meaning the water enters the reactor at the bottom. This allows for optimal CO2 usage. The recirculation pump is a MagDrive 500. If there is anything else you are interested in...

DIY protein skimmer and Ca Reactor

That is a test with salt water. I just dumped in a couple cups of salt to see what the bubble production would be like and I think it works great. It looks like milk in the reaction chamber and it was starting to collect gunk from freshly made saltwater.

DIY protein skimmer and Ca Reactor

Brad, The reaction chamber is 11" OD with a 1/8" wall and 20" tall the riser is ~9" tall and the skimmer has an overall height of 34". The pumps are Gen-X 4100's I am guessing that the tank will easily skim a 500g tank. and the reactor will do a 350g tank.

DIY protein skimmer and Ca Reactor

I just thought I would post a few pictures of the protein skimmer and calcium reactor that I built. If you have any questions on how I made anything please feel free to ask.

    skimmer

never mind my post I just read the first part of the post and realized that you already had the skimmer modified. Great modification by the way :)

    skimmer

    wow my first post :)

    skimmer

If you have a drill you could also do some modifications to that skimmer that would make it awsome. You could do a recirculating mod on it where you mount a pump specifically for mixing the air and the water. Then you could feed the skimmer by an feed pump and drill a hole and add a output for...
