    bristleworm? question

Krish - thanks, I have watched your tank threads with interest. The setup looks awesome to me. I look forward to seeing more! Steve - thanks and good point. I will consider carefully before making any "live" purchases to soley solve this problem. I am going to increase my flow and keep up...

    bristleworm? question

Krish, great thanks! My tests have been zero for about three weeks now. I expect the sump/fuge that you looked at for me to arrive today! Thanks again. I have 25 lbs. more LR on the way also. BTW, do you heat the water that you cure LR in? I know I need powerhead but wonder if I need...

    bristleworm? question

That is about what I have read. Small ones a relatively harmless, but the larger ones can present a problem. I am concerned that if I try the nylon trap, that I will catch the peppermint shrimp or a hermit crab on accident...

    bristleworm? question

Hi, when I first rec'd my LR from the dealer, I found 5-6 worms, look like pink centimeters, in the boxes. Foolishly, not knowing what they were, I put them back on the rock thinking I was getting some free goodies. From what I have read, they are a pest but it does not sound like they pose...

    Live rock help

LOL - yes we did get off on a tangent there, didn't we. Sounds like a pain in the rear for you Krish! I decided to leave everything alone for now. I am really nervous about crushing a snail or crab if I try and re-aquascape the tank. I think I will just add some pieces of LR here and there...

    Live rock help

No worries, did not consider it an attack, just wanted to fill you in on my situation. I wish we had more options here, the next major area would be Sacramento, a 2 hour drive. Not that bad, but I buy livestock there, I would have some transportation logistics to figure out. Sounds like your...

    Live rock help

afishyonados - I agree, I very much like to support local businesses and local vendors, for anything I engage in, whenever possible. So far, I have spent approx. $2,300 with my LFS since mid Sept. Doing what I can for the LFS. Dr. Foster and Smith will not be at the door; although, I highly...

    Live rock help

Krish - I found the 820 on E-Bay for $40 plus $10 shipping. I also found the 1100 for $54. That is significantly cheaper than the LFS. To get close to some of the numbers you suggested before, maybe I need two of the 1100's? Also, what do you mean by closed loop? Thanks, Tony

    Live rock help

Krish - I got Shang'hai'd <sp?> by one of my clients and had to get to Las Vegas for a few days. His boss came in from UK and the wanted a tour of some call centers and some demos of some IVR software I have written. Then we went out, for two days. LOL, I am still recovering. Yeah, I liked...

    Live rock help

Thanks Detri. Yeah, when I found those mushrooms I took pictures of them and went down to LFS. He sold me "DT's Live Marine Phytoplankton" to feed them. But, I have not been feeding them very much (once a week) based on what I have read out there. Sounds like they can get a lot of nutrition...

    Live rock help

Krish - Went out of town for a few days for work. Back in the saddle now. I have not decided on the background. I could try that. I would be concerned about access issues etc, as you mention. A buddy of mine is an expert with woodworking. He suggested we build some sort of end table...

    Live rock help

Starting to make more sense, plenty of info for me to read and catch up on out there. It is a glass tank, so the overhang looks perfect. The only reason I was thinking through the wall is because of the stand, here take a look: The room on the other side of the wall is my home office /...

    Live rock help

Krish - thanks again, that thread is very helpful. Will I need to start over to do a sump/fuge set-up? Meaning, will I have to drain the tank and drill holes for the plumbing, etc? Are there systems that do not require through-the-wall designs? I will keep reading and looking around. Tony

    Live rock help

A ton! I will begin researching the sump/fuge set-ups out there. I would not really want it in the same room where I have my new tank. Maybe I can run the plumbing through the wall or something. I won't need the heater and mechanical bio-filter in the main tank anymore with that set-up...

    Live rock help

Krish, No, I don't have a sump/fuge yet. Will I need that set-up. Please forgive my ignorance, but what exactly will that get me. I can add additional pumps, if you think its a good idea. About how much would be recommended for this 90gal? My dealer suggested that I use my old freshwater...

    Live rock help

It is starting to grow on me the more I look at it. The only thing I am considering is moving the whole structure back a little. Based on everyone's feedback - sounds like I did ok. I have been trying to imagine it fuller with coral, etc... As for filtration and equipment - I have the 90...

    Live rock help

Hi, I'm very new to reef systems. I have purchased a 90 gal. tank. and have had it going for 3 weeks now. I purchased 100 lbs. live sand and 90 lbs. of Fiji live rock based on my local dealers recommendations. I have some concern over the placement of the live rock in the tank. I have read...
