In Wall - going for it! - seeking your ideas/feedback/advice

Hey guys, things are still doing well with the tank. I've recently installed a frag tank and a refugium to the system and increased the capacity of my water changes to 74 gallons. maintanence on this system really isn't any more difficult that my previous 55g system. I thought it was going to...

    Removing corals from rock?

My personal opinion is the hammer and chisel option. I like to give the softies somethign to adhere to so that they aren't floating around the tank. Plus, I think this woudl cause less stress which would mean less toxins emitted in the water. good luck!

    Watts in your refugium?

Melev did a comparison on lights for growing chaeto - may want to check it out. he found that the 5100k flood lights did the best. Here's a link. HOpe it helps: http://www.melevsreef.com/fuge_bulb.html

Just wanted to say thank you Duane for coming over last night and staying for 4+ hrs to help me out in crisis mode. The bottom of my sump blew out and Duane drove over, helped me empty out it out, clean it up and reseal it. Couldn't have done it with out you. Hope you realize how thankful I am -...

Need help with a remote fuge design

Well, turns out I just happend to have 3 5100k CF bulbs and a clip on fixture in my pile-o-junk, so that made the lighting decision a lot easier :D:D:D Here we go!!! I'll test it out after a week and see where were at, but I think we're in business baby! Also, here's kind of a fun link to a...

Need help with a remote fuge design

Thanks guys. Can hardly wait to get it hooked up, but after your advice I'll test first to see where i'm at in a week. Now all I need to do is make a decision on the lights. You guys have given me some good options and I think i'll run to home depot or Lowes today to see what's available...

Just came across this today. looks like Melev advocates rinsing sand. http://www.melevsreef.com/rinsing_sand.html

Need help with a remote fuge design

I'm half way up and running. I spent about 2-3 hrs last night rinsing the sand. I had to come in a couple times b/c my hands became numb. Hey.. what's reefing without a little sacrifice right? :D:D:D I siliconed my baffles in - went with 9 inch walls, added sand and have it about half way...

    PH issues w/Octopus Calc Rx

Hey Jan, I had my first occurance of the same nature last week actually (different reactor though) - My effluent hose became clogged and no water was dripping out and bunch of bubbles were collecting inside. For me, I tried to clean out the effluent nozzle as best I could, then just emptied...

    A Clearly Fabricated 270g

Sorry bud.. taking apart and reguluing is your best long term solution. you could slap a bunch of cement on there, but it'll look a little ugly and the bond isn't as solid..

Need help with a remote fuge design

Ok.. so similar point to what Scooty was mentioning. an inch more in baffle size (7") probably isn't going to be sufficient to contain 5-6" of sand. I hear ya.. i'll see if I can cut taller center baffles to contain the sand. Good suggestion. One good thing I have working for me is that I'm...

Need help with a remote fuge design

Hey Logik! Not sure I follow the first question, but the second question I get. The top baffles coudl be lower than the height of the bulkhead, but by doing so of course I encourage water to move over top and with that microbubbles. Plus, I was really hoping to channel the water down by the sand...
