HEHE!! that's just good stuff! yup! i'm a lifelong bears fan! it's actually my roommates fault that they lost! he didn't come to the traditional breakfast at Kellers Iron Skillet that sunday. if you want to throw rocks at him, i understand... ;)

Wow, guys, that was neat, looking into others' tanks. some of the environments you've all put together are absolutely beautiful!!! i have a particular affinity for Eliyah's tank, since i'm also stuck at the thirty gallon level. E, you've done a great deal better than I in such a challenging...

    Trying to avoid major blunders

Heh, my rookiehood shines once again! i never thought of the fact that blowing off the rocks would put food into the water. i mean, i see it kick up at every water change (the tank is small, there's no room to put in water without disturbing the whole thing...), but i never thought about the...

any particular reason why? i'd like to have him stay about. he amuses me beyond belief! (his mouth does this little electric thing that's just so much fun!)

    Trying to avoid major blunders

Ok. So, since you guys helped me to save my sun coral, it has done absolutely splendidly. In fact, it upped my motivation and appreciation more than I expected. I have since added three feather dusters and a scallop. I am aware that all of these should be easy enough to keep, but I have a...

stupid questions from the new guy

guru, yeah, i'm an isu student. but i study chinese history, so, as to making any money, it's unlikely...i don't know what i'm gonna do with my tank when i complete my undergrad work and head to china for a coupla years...can't really take it with me, ya know? keeper, in regards tothe sun, i'm...

    LR and Coraline algea

definately informative (and certainly rambly :D ) my tank is a year old (it's birthday is tomorrow actually!), though, and i've never seen a bit of CA on the glass of my tank, more or less a dime-sized area, which was quoted as an indicator for the safe introduction of coral... i don't know...

    LR and Coraline algea

well, i've been curious about urchins for a while, but wasn't sure how it would go with everything else, or if it would survive. you mentioned depressed alkalinity. where-abouts should that be for proper encouragement of the algae?

stupid questions from the new guy

actually, since it's the end of the semester, and i'm days and days behind, i haven't had time to switch food yet, so i'm still giving it the ol' freezerated sea-monkeys. it seems to like it just fine. since the piece will never be a proper show piece (about half of it is skeletonized), i'll...

stupid questions from the new guy

I've rearranged the tank to allow for a better postition for the sun, where it can have the proper flow and also offer space for me to feed it individually. The 'lunar-lander' you suggested has worked wonders. Within just a few days, there was noticable improvement in the flowering of the...

stupid questions from the new guy

Phenomenal! Not only does the article describe a clever manner of feeding (which i will attempt to assemble tonite) but it describes exactly the manner in which I obtained my Sun Coral (donated by my favorite fish store because it was dying on them!) I'm not sure what kind of psycic abilities...

stupid questions from the new guy

been working on papers the whole day and itching as i read each reply! i'm going home to try baster feeding now! the lights should be off in just a few minuts, so i'll try it in a dark tank. i've always given my tank 3-4 hours of light per day, in the evening, so i could view it while i was...

    LR and Coraline algea

I only have about thirty pounds of rock in my tank, as I am working with a very small system (29 gal.-though i think i'm going to a 90 or 100 after the holidays!) the first fifteen lbs. i got from a friend (who has since left the state) and it is lovely! the rest of the rock i picked up later...

stupid questions from the new guy

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Dead on! That's exactly the coral I'm working with! The attatched article has a great deal of wonderful information with which I hope i can save the coral before it's too late. I'm not sure, but i think my problem is in feeding. The author of the article suggests...

stupid questions from the new guy

as to the ID, i really don't know. as i said, i'm new to reef tanks. i'll try to post some stats on my water this weekend, and a pic or two if i can. it's unfortunate that this is happening during finals week! thanks for the welcome and the offer of help! i do truly appreciate it!

stupid questions from the new guy

hey all. found the forum and i hope i'm not intruding too much, but it seems like there is a quality knowledge base around here. i'm a real beginner to reef tanks. i've had a salt tank for about a year and have just introduced my first corals, due to fear of losing them (i'm a broke...
