What test kit are you using? Salifert seems to be the gold standard to go by. If you are looking for something besides WM try Tropic Marin Bio-Calcium it is a one part balanced additive.

    Cowfish...Boston Bean

I had a Longhorn Cowfish that died about 2 1/2 years ago and poisoned the whole tank. The fish was fine when I went to work in the morning and when I got home it was dead and all the fish in the tank were drifting around and turning sideways, I changed about 50% of the water and added a ton of...

I too have 250watt 10k XMs and coral colors are great and things are growing that never did like macro algae of a type I have not ID'ed yet. I have a crocea clam that turned brown and now has its full color back after 2 months under XMs. :)

    Baking Soda in the Aquarium

I quit using the homemade mix because of its short term effect on ALK, add it today and the next day my ALK is low again. I am currently using TM Bio-Calcium and AquaCraft's buffer for my 75g and things are back to normal.

    ORP and salt mix

I used Oceanic for a while and had brown algae problems from it, so I switched to IO which I think is a better grade of salt and the algae problem went away almost immediately, so higher ORP readings really isn't a surprise and certainly a good thing.

    ORP and salt mix

If you change a lot of water and cleaned up waste that would account for the sustained higher readings.

    Prime

I'm glad we can I agree that it slows down the cycle and thus is not recommendable for treating a cycling tank, I use and recommend Sodium Thiosulfate for treating tap water. Too many beginners start using these types of additives instead letting the natural course of cycling run without...

    Prime

Sure is funny when people use it or something similar it takes forever for the tank to cycle, theory is one thing but practical experience speaks volumes. :D

    What Temperature is Your Tank?

I was told 78F was the best temp for reef tanks, mine is at 81F and doing well, the one time I tried going down lower the fish got sick so I raised the temp back and the fish are fine. I do run a chiller because our house gets very hot in the summer. Dwaine
