Bahamian Profiles of reefs, rocks and puddles

they don't seem to do well in tanks. Hubby had a couple for awhile but I think they only lived a few months. They spent most of their time under the sand where we couldn't even see them.

Wonderful pictures - very cool. Sand dollars live in Puget Sound too. If you go to Dash Point State Park here in Federal Way when we have one of those record low tides you can see thousands of them. The ones we have here are flatter disks and the live ones are covered with a dark purplish...

Chanis - I'm sorry you are having this problem. I know how frustrating it can be. I don't have the answers for you, but there are people at http://www.seahorse.org that can help you. Jiddy - just for you. The first 3 are some of my full size seahorses. In order, a tigertail (H. comes), a...

OMG!! My lost shipment of dwarf seahorses is still alive!!!!

With any size seahorse, the air in the pouch isn't a problem unless it stops them from navigating enough to get food, otherwise it's not doing any harm so the best thing to do is leave them alone. If they can figure it out, they can flush the air out of the pouch by themselves. One of my...

The larger seahorses are much more likely to interact with you then the dwarfs and are more active but the little guys are cute too. I don't find hatching brine every day to be a big deal once it's part of the routine. If you really want dwarfs (or any seahorses) I'd suggest reading up on them...

    Puget Sound Water

It is UV treated now according to their website and what we've been told. I also believe it is taken from out in deep water, I could be wrong on that though and the website doesn't say. We deliver it to Aquarium Paradise and run it through a 5 micron filter as we transfer it from the truck to...

I haven't been there for awhile, but it's where we got our reidi. Is that where you got the comes?

You don't happen to have an extra male comes do you? I've been looking for one for a long, long time. We have a comes female (from the original brood born 10/18/03), a barb female, a female I think is a kuda, a pair of young reidi, 11 adult dwarves and 24-25 six week old dwarves. :D

    Puget Sound Water

When I talked to them a couple years ago, they weren't doing the UV thing and also were not using as fine a filter as they do now - at that time we had decided against it too. We also run it through another filter ourselves. I'm sure you're right about more pollutants after rain, but they do...

Just what are "red shrimp" from Hawaii??

I couldn't really recommend either one over the other and haven't done business with either one (but I just get an ugly feeling for a company that offers ghost shrimp for $6.75 each hoping someone won't know any better). I've ordered twice from www.floridacollector.com and been happy. He's an...

Just what are "red shrimp" from Hawaii??

I pronounce it: red shrimp I hope that helps.

Just what are "red shrimp" from Hawaii??

Halocaridina rubra or as the Hawaiians call them Opa'e ula are small, red shrimp found only in brackish water pools in cracks and depressions in the coastal lava on the island of Hawaii and other islands through out the Indo-Pacific regions. They are very hardy and can live in both high and low...

    Puget Sound Water

We've been using it for about 7 months now. I started thinking that all the successful commercial seahorse breeders use natural seawater so I decided to give it a try. We are using it in all 9 of our display tanks and all our cultures and have had excellent results although the only fry we...

    New picture of my Bengal

Great pets! I'm gonna sneak mine in here too. A few weeks ago we got this guy. He's 1/2 Bengal, 1/2 Ooops - 6 months old. His mom was actually part of a Toyger breeding program.

    Seahorses born!!!

Congrats! You're doing great. You might consider putting sponge over all the outflows when a birth is likely, that will help you save more fry. We lost all of the batch we had and since then have only had 2 pregnancies that both resulted in premie or deformed fry.. no real fry. I'm hoping for...

    rotifers?

I culture rotifers, it seems very easy to me. I never thought about keeping them in a tank. Hmmmm... I don't think the food density would be high enough to maintain a population in your tank. I feed mine 3-4 times a day by turning the water light green with homegrown phyto. Vicky
