    ready for new lights

If you've got a canopy you might look at a retrofit kit. Other than the ballast crapping out (which is rare for IC) I've been pretty happy with my IceCap retro kit; the cost is more reasonable than a fixture.

Seattle to hot 90º this week

I've resorted to freezing zip loc bags of saltwater. Ordered a chiller yesterday but by the time it gets here I'm sure the heat wave will be over.

    SKimmer not foaming.

Looks like a modified ReefOctopus; almost identical to the one I used to have.

    Ecoqualizer?

I find it amazing how something can have such a bad rap for so long and still get asked about now and then; and that's not meant as a jab at the OP before anyone freaks out.

Seattle to hot 90º this week

I've been mulling that one over myself. I've got a window right next to the aquarium, so I'm wondering if a window ac unit wouldn't be better than a chiller. Came home from a five day camping trip today to find my tank at 85.5 F; hottest it's ever been, and I've got one coral on the way out...

That's a pretty good link there! I like their search function. Too bad it's only Caribbean sponges.

    Aqua lifter and TOP-off question

Roger, misread what you were saying. http://www.thefilterguys.biz/fittings.htm Found this one, it's about half way down the page. If not, have you tried puting the end of the discharge hose at the bottom of your sump? Maybe the added back pressure (sea pressure) would be enough to override the...

    id for black spongy thing

I agree, I've got a couple patches of what sounds like the same stuff. Hitched in and seems to do well in the deep dark recesses of my tank.

    Aqua lifter and TOP-off question

I don't know what your evap rate is, but if I recall you've got a fairly big system; will an Aqualifter be able to keep up?

    Aqua lifter and TOP-off question

Just have the line that's going into your sump (discharge from Aqualifter) high enough that it's not actually in the water. Mine ends about four inches above, no siphon.

    Scoly

Great looking scoly! I've got a couple myself, but they can't even touch the vibrant green on that one. Thanks for sharing. (great pics too)

    Quick dumb question

Thanks fellas! That seemed to make sense from a design-smoothing-out-bubble-turbulence type of angle.

    Quick dumb question

So on skimmers with a bubble plate, do the beveled edges of the holes go up or down? I'm pretty sure they were facing down when I took it apart, but I want to be sure.

    Metal halides time

Souds like ample photo period for the halides.

Can't watch youtube here at work. I'll have to check it out when I get home.

    Any Ideas on T5 Problem?

I'm gonna pull that pump out in the morning and call the vendor to see about warranty. I've got to read the paperwork again and see if the mesh mod voids the deal. The pump only lasted two months.

    Any Ideas on T5 Problem?

http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/catalog/Pumps/c25/p321/Askoll/Laguna-Max-Flo-1500-with-Skimmer-Volute-and-Pinwheel/product_info.html So is this the same pump that they sell with the MSX1A skimmer? And if so, do you know if it is compatable with the Sicce pump'd skimmers (could I swap them out)?

    Any Ideas on T5 Problem?

Are the askoll pumps better than the sicce pumps. I came home from work about an hour early last night to find my living room a bit smokey and the distinct smell of electrical fire in the air; it was one of my skimmer's sicce pumps. I'd had a problem with it about a week ago, just started making...
