    cold water reef pics

Very nice set-up! Looks good. Every summer when we have low tides between 10am and 3pm I am very tempted to set one up as well. I noticed your star fish look to be native. Those ones get REALLY BIG! but that is a nice part of living here, just take them back and get new smaller ones! :lol...

    Custom aquarium design help

Room seperator tanks can be very cool looking. I highly recommend making it as wide as you can ( at least 30" ) to allow for space the overflow is going to hog up.

    I need help

Neat idea, but it will be a very expensive tank. You could make the tank much bigger for close to the same cost. Labor is going to be much more than materials for that tank so you could easily make it taller, wider and longer without much up charge.

    Tank builders...HELP...acrylic vs plexiglass

Plexi is acrylic. There are many brand names for acrylic ( Plexiglass, Polycast, Acrycast, Cryo, Lexan, ect.....) The grade of acrylic is the important part. YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE EXTRUDED ACRYLIC !!!!!!! It has different properties than cast including water absorbtion. In plexiglass it...

Sump or sumpless? Need to figure this out fast.

I might be too late for advise here but, the standard bi-metallic hole saws are fine for acrylic. dragoneggs gave good advise on the drilling part, also be careful when the saw is about to punch out the other side as it is easy to chip out around the hole. As far as the LFS stores go, Jonas...

    baffle sizing in the sump

And last, here are some pics of only 2 baffles. This works well when space is the primary concern but in order to work it has to be run with a foam block that needs cleaning every week or so............( so that needs cleaned too! ) Oops, I shrank the first pics too much. Well I...

    baffle sizing in the sump

Here are some pics of 3 baffles in my reef tank sump/fuge. It doesn't show in the pics but there are no bubbles in the chamber where my pump suction is. I tried to show that in the overhead pic

    baffle sizing in the sump

Here are some pics and my 2 cents. More than 3 baffles is overkill IMO. The sump in these pics actually has 5 baffles (that's what I recommend if you use more than 3). The over under over works best at forcing bubbles to the surface and it also acts as a dam for sand, gravel and other misc...

    Sump/fuge plans....will this work?

Oh come on now... it takes at least 100gal to qualify as a flood! :p It is truely amazing how big a mess 2 gal can make isn't it? Good luck. The CPR overflows are pretty nice once you get them set up right. Some people will only use the CPR style and some people have had it with pump...

    sump

Looks good but I agree, put some baffles after the fuge/ before the pumps and drop the skimmer outlet into the baffles before the pumps.

    T5HO vs PCs

I don't have any of the tech info at hand but as Scooty said there is tech info all over the forums. I can give IMO, I really like the T-5's. Especially over PC's. Here are some pics of my rock tank with LPS and SPS corals in it. I only have T-5's over it. 2 48" x 54 watt 10K lamps and 1...

Best [Snail] Cleaner for (Inside) Glass?

I have a large blend of snails. Mex Turbos, Vietnam Turbos, Zebra Turbos, cerrith, astrea, margarita, nerites, trochus, nassarius ( 3 species) and some cone looking ones (unidentif). They all do different jobs to some degree. - Nassarius are awesome sand cleaners and have cool snorkel tubes -...

    Bioballs or not

I really like the external type CTC overflows (like Krish's pic), they don't hog any internal space or shadow the back of the reef. But if you want the tank flat against the wall then it won't work. :p Geeeez Krish, I bet if there was another square inch of space on that tank you would have...

    Bioballs or not

Lots of people use glass sumps and they work fine. I just think acrylic is better. I completely understand why some people don't want acrylic tanks because of the potential for scratches, but I think everyone should buy my sumps! --- ok, so not everyone, I guess I can't build that fast. :p...
