    Merry Christmas to me!

Pretty awesome job on the puffer. I definitely don't have enough faith in myself to try something like that..

    Your oldest fish....

Wish I had a picture of him, but I had a Blackcap Basslet for about 5 years through multiple tanks. He was a trooper 'till he started swimming upside down for a day or two and then died :(. RIP Buddy.

    Alkalinity ?

I don't recall the specifics but they don't actually consume alk and Ca in a 1:1 manner so depending on a whole lot of chemistry I only kind of understand and where your parameters are, it's entirely likely that your water changes replenish Ca satisfactorily but not Alk.

    Cooking live rock?

I love the planning and build process but my god I'm impatient... I'd be going crazy waiting.

    Ideas for blocking overlow

Gutter guard, though, as mentioned you'll be buying 15-30'. Still cheaper than losing an eel. You could also use window screening.

    Niger M.I.A.

That's a pretty good sized fish to up and disappear, though I've gotta say that saltwater setups are pretty good about disguising fish for periods of time... in the case of the trigger though I would suspect jumping or death + CUC feast.

Been up for almost 7 months any suggestions

Honestly, if it's not broke don't fix it! To the extent you're able, automating dosing helps me have more time to enjoy my tank.

    Alkalinity ?

I always had a higher rate of Alk consumption in my tanks than calcium but never was able to really isolate the precise cause, just dosed it back up to where I wanted it though nothing ever really reacted poorly to it being a bit low. IPisces links are some great reference material.

    Hello from Olympia, WA

Welcome! I definitely want to see pics of that tank!

    Cooking live rock?

I actually prefer to not seed from LR/Sand from others tanks unless I'm quite comfortable that there aren't any undesirables coming with. A bit of fish food will start your nitrogen cycle just fine.

    66 newly endangered corals

Curious if any of these are common in the aquarium trade...

what kind of coral is this

+1 on clove polyps. The tubes are pretty unmistakable, though if they are hard they may be pipe corals. Cloves typically have a softer tube. Be careful - mine had a suspected nasty reaction with SPS that triggered a tank crash (or that was Fenner's thoughts from WWM).

How do I frag this coral

Another option that I use with softies is bridal veil like material to hold them down - I have bad lug with rubberbands crushing the corals or having them slime out from under them.

    Anybody's coral spawn last night?

I had all sorts of issues with Poci spawning when I kept it in my previous set up. I wasn't able to pinpoint what would trigger it, but I know those jagged little guys growing everywhere made maintenance dangerous!

    My 50

Nice looking fixture. That's got to be really relaxing to look at - love the FTS!

    Marlin's 180 gallon aggresive tank

What are you stocking plans (other than aggressive inhabitants ;) )?

    new goodies from this weekend

Great looking clams. I'm definitely going to have to find room in my cube for a crocea one of these days...

    My 4 Gallon Pico

Looks like your tank is coming along nicely!

    New to the Seattle Area

Thanks! It's really nice to have it begin to come together. I converted from MH/T5's to LED's for this tank. I'm rocking the Kessil a350; it's perfect for the 18" cube with really ideal spread and no bleed. I'm starting to notice that my SPS seems to be beautifully colored on the top directly...
