Thamarind Thai (Dang's) Tank - DIAL UP BEWARE!!!

Go for the fresh spring rolls, and the scallops with eggplant! Oh yeah, the aquariums are great too!

Pacific Coast Import Chiller. Beware of warranty!!!!!!

I also had a bad experience with a brand new Teclima chiller, made by Fritz, but they took care of me. It too ran all the time, and phone support suspected a lack of refrigerant. I had to pay to ship it to Texas, and their technician called me just a few days later: he could not find anything...

    frogspawn frag??

And be careful not to bump the polyp end against anything. Don't let it fall either when trying out where you want to place it. I have had very bad luck with any damage getting brown jelly and killing the entire frag within just a couple of days.

    2 or 3 firefish

I've had very bad luck losing them right after purchase, even drip acclimating etc... I only had 3 of 9 survive after 5 days. However, the 3 remaining have never fought. They get along great with my seahorses, even at feeding time. Now, a year later, two of the firefish are starting to hang...

Recent Drought Anouncement in Washington State

I live in western Washington where the drought will be bad. I intend to drive my fancy car dirty, and somehow catch and use the RO waste water that I generate. Other than that, I think my personal impacts are minimal and I am not going to worry about it (from an aquarium perspective). Be very...

    Do you name your fish?

Hey MikeS, I used to go to school in Laramie, plus worked a couple summers up in the Bighorns. Sure miss it...No wonder I've got ponies, eh?

    Do you name your fish?

I have seahorses, and yes, the ladies melt when they see them, especially feeding time (okay, the UPS guy did too). So of course I need cute names as well.... Adrian, Adelle, Pepe le Pew (well named), Kittie, Ringo, Monica (keeps a mysis cigar), Chopper (he lost the tip of his tail to a crab...

    aquaC EV-120 blowing bubbles/not skimming!

I have the larger 180 model. Sounds like your pump is too large. As far as AquaC responding to emails, forget it. I had some problems at first and they were very responsive with operation advice. Now they are completing ignoring me because I need a replacement skimmer for a cracked/crazed...

Angry need to vent, Tank Vandalism!!

Too bad you can't hold off on that buffing job until after they are caught.....

    Seahorses born!!!

Thanks. I tried putting sponges over the intake, and it backed everything up and flooded my living room while I was at work. So, I just make sure there is some water down in the overflow to minimize their splash, and collect them from the filter sock. Can't risk much else.

    Seahorses born!!!

I finally moved my 3 teenagers from the nursery into the main seahorse tank. They simply were not interested in frozen mysis, and had depleted all the pods in the nursery. I wanted to try a method I read about: put them in with adults so they can watch the grown ups eat frozen mysis. Boy...

My 60 gallon cube tank Start-Up!

I love my 60 gal cube seahorse tank with cherry stand and MH canopy. It just seems the perfect "tower" for the living room. Good luck! P.S. I graduated from Univ of Montana back in 1981, and really miss Missoula.

    Which Halide Bulb???

I have been using a 400w 14k Hamilton on an IceCap electronic ballast for the past 6 months on my seahorse tank. The blue color is beautiful, but my Halimeda macroalgae, candy cane corals, xenias, and finger leathers all do not like it at all. Things sort of grew, but are stunted and weird...

    Problem Equipment

Stay away from Clearwater Tech equipment. It is very high end and expensive, but a year later replacement UV bulbs were twice the price of competitors, and two years later not available at all. Anybody want a $400 paperweight?

    Storing RO/DI Water

I collect and store my RO in Coleman brand blue 5gal jugs. The vent hole is a perfect fit for the RO out line. I can stand the jug in my sink, attach the RO line, and go away. If I am gone late, the jug overfills and simply drains into the sink out the larger jug opening. Other methods I...

    Collecting things from the sound

I used to live up in Anchorage where feeder fish are very expensive (shipping is not that much more, it's just the "Alaska Gouge"). Legend up there has it that one day a guy got fed up and netted up some small fish from the saltwater, and put them in his predator tank. Everything died soon...

    Let's Talk About ~Pests~

If you catch your mantis, I would love to have him. I would put him in with mine. It would either end up as an aquatic cock fight, or (hopefully) love at first snap!

    Acrylic scratch removal kit

Definately go with straight lines. Don't be shy using the coarser grit, otherwise you go through all the labor of using the different grits, and still have a scratch. You can also save a bundle by buying the MicroMesh "sandpaper" directly from Rocklin Woodworking down by SouthCenter Mall...

How do you get Cyclop-Eze to sink?

I tried everything to make it sink and failed. So, I stopped using it since it only fouled the water. Too bad since my microscope shows the critters are much more intact with legs, oil drops, etc... than the frozen version.

    Pistol or mantis shrimp

Mantis shrimp click pretty good too. I bought one and keep him alone in a 15gal hex with corals and snails. He starts clicking when he is hungry, and I then stick feed him a frozen krill. He especially clicks as he tears it apart, sort of like us groaning with Rocky Road ice cream. If I...
