I had it bad when I tried to have red Gracillaria macroalgae in my show tank. It came in and quickly grew all over the Gracillaria, forcing me to pull everything out. Too late, it was now in my refugium and took over. However, down there it doesn't really matter what anything looks like, and...
I get H. reidi fry every few days now, everybody is always pregnant it seems. However, I cannot keep them alive for more than 5 days or so, usually just a couple days. They simply disappear at night so I suspect the larger amphipods in the macroalgae stuffed nursery (Eclipse 12 with sponge...
They are really cool, and get pretty big. I have had them for years, they multiply like crazy. But when I tried to sell them to a LFS, they looked them up, and are officially not reef safe. I have never had any problems at all, but they didn't want them. Even my mantis shrimp leaves them...
I was a little dissappointed that my bottle only had about 20 visible pods, and there never was a bloom 2 weeks later as indicated. Maybe my tank conditions were not right, but I don't think I would ever do it again. Have you seen that guy in Nevada that sells snick'n shrimp and their young...
If I put any red Gracillaria in with my black elephant snails, it dissolves over time too! You might have something eating it, although nothing seems to eat mine.
I have also had great experiences and customer service from AquaC, despite their slow response and holiday screwups. So far pretty satisfied but still waiting on a replacement skimmer they had promised to have a John Guest ozone fitting like I had asked for 2 weeks ago. I'll keep you posted on...
I had the same thing a few years ago, the source of the bubbles drove me crazy. I finally torn down the plumbing and found a cracked bulkhead coming out of the sump that was sucking air. Replaced it, and no problem since. Watch how much you tighten stuff!
I have used Kent salt for many years, but cannot compare it to anything because it is all I have ever used. So, I guess I can blame any problems I have on the salt! :)
With all the bad experiences we sometimes have, I think it is also very important to spread the word about good folks as well. On that note, I recently bought a Teclima chiller from MD but I just wasn't happy with it. The manufacture, Fritz, took it back simply because I did not like it. Full...
Wink: I also lost most of my little guys to hydroids, but I still have 3 that are 6 1/2 weeks old, plus 5 that are 4 weeks old. I think they will all make it. I set up a new nursery last night and expect to move everybody in tomorrow. How did you get rid of the hydroids? P.S. I get 40-50...
I still have a lot to learn about corals and diseases, but I do know something about trees. In trees, many things do indeed "lurk", and may only become a problem if the tree is stressed. Some things may even kill a tree although the real problem is something else. For example, water stress...
Yes, great job with the photos. If my seahorses saw those they would break into a gallop. Amphipods illicit an amazing feeding response from my seahorses, Anthias, and others. I find them all the time while changing my filter sock. That is how I get off my lazy duff and clean the tank, by...
I know that medical doctors recommend drinking plain water instead of juice to help soften a hangover. Your body needs water then, not other stuff. I drink my RO/DI all the time. I assume I get plenty of electolytes from the other stuff (beer, coffee, hot sauce...)
I have been using 4" Radio Shack fans with great success. I am told, however, that they don't stand up to the salt environment very well over the long term. The biggest problem was going through all the $1 used appliances at Goodwill to find an AC adaptor with the right amperage. I even used...
I used to hunt down and kill every bristle worm I could. Now, since I have not really had anything killed by them (except possibly a nice clam), I consider them much as I do the macroalgae in my refugium: when they get big (and bold) simply harvest them (tweezers) and in effect remove...
I would have thought more about electrical power requirements and what outlets and circuits were available for my tanks, especially in the living room where you may want something besides aquariums (hard to believe, eh?). A MH lighting system with all the works on the same 15 amp circuit as a...
I agree, fill it with water before you decide if you have the energy to buff it out. I recently buffed out a horribly scratch 120gal. I used the same route as the Rainbow Lifeguard scratch removal kit, except saved lots of $ by buying the fine Micromesh sandpaper from Rockler's woodworking at...
Yes, those were mine. Glad to hear they are doing fine. I have decided to break down my 120g so I have more of the same available. Some nice big combo rocks as well.
