Exellent article, many SPS guys will be suprized.

True, but I've also left newly cut frags on top of the canopy by accident - with them toast an hour or so later [when re-inserted back into tank ... skeleton by morning]. He's got a great, valid point - but generating that mucus is energy expenditure for the coral, I figure. For some that...

    Let's see your Bare Bottom

Thanks! It's a Oceanic 58g RR ... 36 x 18 x 21" tall. The tunze is big in the tank ... until recently I had it much better hidden - but also blowing into rocks behind the rockwork as my bubble coral couldn't handle all that flow. But ... I removed some rock, fragged the bubble + kept 4 heads...

    Let's see your Bare Bottom

I've run my tank BB for a year and a half now. Very happy with it, I'm quite happy with how much things have progressed. Recently re-aquascaped to accomodate my green slimer's future growth, now it needs everything to grow out :)

A 750g SPS system is born

Acro FW's ... something I've not seen yet, hope to never see. Man, that sucks. There was this good post on RC about Levamisole HCl: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=6094194#post6094194 Which links to [BRS thread]: http://216.235.242.50/forums/showthread.php?t=17217...

    Who made PO4 the Devil?

    I dunno, Boomer. I don't stress it, though :)

    White Sox!!!!!

Way to go White Sox! Growing up a few hours north of Chicago, we still had plenty of Cubs fans. During the 80's at least, it was sort of cool to be a long-suffering Cub fan. Not the Sox, they were just some other team, no one was cool for liking them. I couldn't be happier that the White Sox...

Who here is NOT from the Pacific Northwest?

Madison, Wisconsin :) While many here are from the northwest, I've always felt completely welcomed ... good people, wherever they may live.

What will be the next plague?

You and me both. It could end [locally in places] LFS trade-ins, it could make frags not the `nothing but positive' many of us have found them to be. I got the Monti nudis this summer, and have most of my collection down in a basement tub getting dipped/inspected. It's affected my trade...

    MACNA 2005 Pics

Thanks for the pics, nice to see Gene's friendly face in a picture too :) That outer/inner powerhead thing sure does look neat. Any idea on pricing [smaller than a tunze I'd guess means more expensive?]. Gotta go next year ...

    MACNA or IMAC

If both were as easy, I'd go to MACNA. Having said that, IMAC is a couple hours drive away [doesn't move] so likely will always be easier for me. Didn't have time/$ for the full weekend this year, but still could drive down for Saturday. Wish I could do that at MACNA every year too ... but...

    Anthias Compatability

That's good to know, Kevin. You think they wouldn't have a problem with Royal Gramma? Given they're partly the same size, like to hang out in overhangs generally in the same areas ... and love to do that jaw-menacing thing ... think there's a worry?

    Anthias Compatability

IMO, the tang is too large and active to put the anthias at ease. Or so my take is. I really think they do better in quiet tanks - don't think any gobies or dragonet would hassle them - but with a tang, dragonet, and sunburst in one tank IMO that's three special needs fish. For what my 58...

    Anthias Compatability

As mentioned, I've had a sunburst Anthias in my 58g reef tank for the last 6 months. It seems healthy, has great color, and is `out' a good bit; so while my success is quite short-term yet, I guess I'll add what I can about these fish. Given experience like Kevin and others in this forum [see...

    Anthias Compatability

On the fence about the gramma ... common, yet saw them diving on my honeymoon. The other basslets, or chalk bass are great ideas. I'll definitely have them in mind too :)

    Anthias Compatability

Well, I have this situation. My sunburst is past the 6 month mark, lots of overhangs, mellow companions. [58g, midas blenny, green clown goby, 2 masked gobies] I feel like the mellow companions have been part of my success with this fish - and do not want to compromise this and stress my...

    Reef Chili ?

I guess I can only wonder - this sure seems a lot like making your own tank-food. Can't we all just get some cyclops-eeze, some various other sized foods, and create our own foods that's about the same exact thing? Sure seems it to me .... [every filter feeder ... :D Funny how they know the...

    faster coral growth

Here we are, the thousands of us on the cutting edge with our DIY'ed tanks in our living room  These guys need to get around a little, maybe check out some SEASL's tanks.

Can your protein skimmer be too efficient?

When I vastly upgraded my skimmer last summer ... I just started feeding a lot more. Seems like people have nutrient problems [or brownout problems] and will upgrade to a very good skimmer. But ... there is no change in the feeding, even though the dissolved nutrients are getting pulled out...
