Damm f#&*^#*&@ peice of *@*(*@# calcium reactor

Ya know Mike, I feel your pain. This morning I woke up and in looking at the tank discovered my 8-9” Sail fin tang was belly up, so was the Naso, banner fish, several Chromis and Bi-Color angelfish. What I found was the new evaporator coil (for the chiller) I installed yesterday had sprung a...

    240g needs fixed

I would be real carefull of solvent welding more acrylic onto old acrylic, at least acrylic that has been submerged. I have had very poor luck attempting this, the old stuff crazzes out real bad. This has been true for me using the following products on Plexiglas G, WeldOn 3, WeldOn 4, WeldOn 16...

    Chiller Question..

Yes, you may leave your chiller outside. But please note: with these cold temps the chiller may not be able to keep the head pressure up if it is not equiped with an low ambient control. (fan cycling control) You need to watch your tank temps just as closely as you would in the summer.

    Bad Ph!!

My brother had the same problem with a fish only tank, his LFS sugested the use an air stone, I was amazed that it brought the pH up to 8.2.

    Jiddy is Hot, soooo Hot!

I for one would ditch the magnetic drive pumps. They put waaaaay to much heat into the water. Most direct drive pumps (shaft drive) don't put near the heat in.:)

Does everyone really have 10x-20x flow?

Welcome to the forum. I think that what alot of people try to recreate is a high energy reef top. Now that being said even though some of us try real hard to achieve that we still fall well short. There is no way to truly simulate the power of 10 foot or larger waves crashing on a barrier reef...

Blind Man: You sure you wanna tell a Blonde Joke?

Hey, Did you hear about the blonde receptionist that ran out of copy machine paper? She called the office supply store and asked them to fax her over a ream of paper!!!

    PVC vs. ABS

I've used ABS in short sections and not had a problem with it. It seems to me that if you used ABS instead of PVC ells and such you would get bette water flow due to the longer radius of the fittings.

Looking for info on ETSS ReefDevil 750 Gemini

Actually the water level in the sump needs to be below the outlet of the skimmer. I would check that the piping from the pump be of the correct size also.

Looking for info on ETSS ReefDevil 750 Gemini

I would say that your pump may be to big. If you have a gate valve on it you could reduce that flow rate through the skimmer. FYI The ETSS skimmer numbers refer to the amount of water they need to work properly. The Gemini 800 needs 800GPH and so on. I have included the scanned pages on how to...

Looking for info on ETSS ReefDevil 750 Gemini

The pump should be an Iwaki MD30 or even the MD40. I've used the Mag pumps on a smaller model and not had the best of luck with it. Attached is the list of bioballs used for the new skimmers. These come with the large ones and fill the necks most of the way. If you have the smaller bioballs then...

    What is ORP?

Angel, I have spent some time researching this as well. I have come to the conclusion that I would rather spend the money on dual UV units than run the risk of a 03 controller failing and killing off my tank. (Picture the mess I would have). The whole point of using ozone is the killing of...

    High Energy SPS Tanks

My three closed loop pumps are on timers that maintain their "off/on" time throughout a 24 hour cycle. Such as p1 on, then p2 on while p1 and p3 are off, then p3 on while the other two are off. I think you get the picture.

    Humidity Control in the Basement

Yes, just remember that the walls have to breathe just like us. Trapping moisture anywhere will cause many problems with the structure as well as mold problems within the house.

    Humidity Control in the Basement

I would only vapor wrap the inside of the walls, not both sides. (for the fish room) You need to let the walls breath or any moisture trapped in there will rot the wood out. I would also use fiberglass insulation for the same reason, it allows the walls to breath better. From a cost savings, an...
