equipment list for first reef tank build

If you want automated as possible then I agree with others about using an Neptune apex over the Reefkeeper. An apex can be hooked up the internet and programmed to e-mail and text you if something is wrong. For a 40 breeder, and especially a first tank. I wouldn't recommend Ozone. You really...

    acro power/feeding

Probably when you said you didnt want to argue :) I know you support AA's but felt like you were going to derail it with a fish food recipe. I guess I'm feeling like I have to defend what seems like a great product so far. We should start a new thread with our recipe's since its always good to...

    acro power/feeding

I completely (almost) agree with your thoughts on this. For eight years I've been "feeding heavy on the verge of cyano" and skimming well so that the corals have plenty to feed on. I make a home made blend of food that the corals can grab as well as the fish during feeding time and the fish...

    Apex Fusion Beta testers needed

Daryll, I added you to my fusion account so you can view my status. As far as I can see its kind of like reetronics with only that authorization. I really like that I can authorize you to control or even program it in case I'm deep in the woods and something goes wrong.

    Amazing pH discovery!

I think you're on the right track. The probe only uses a tiny amount of electricity. Probably 12VDC at 500 Milliamps or less amps. If you place the probe cord next to a wiring harness for a large return pump even the EMF can slightly effect your readings.

You are correct about your lighting. Great tanks take time.

    Tank stand help

I agree with Peppie the most. A complete plywood stand with a little bit of trim.

FWIW, corals don't add to your bioload making your skimmer work harder. Fish and the food you give them is what requires us to use skimmers.

When was the last time you saw it? Before the breakdown or last spring? I think your have to waiit Jesse. I dont have too many frags ready quite yet. I do however need to make some spare change for my trip to Macna this year. I think the Jebao's are a great product for the price. I hacked...

No angle at all. You have to keep the camera absolutely straight to the glass or acrylic. If your shooting top downs you have to turn off all the flow, block the light and adjust the shutter speed to let more light in. I recently made the lens portal posted above which lets me set the lens just...

About 15 minutes. The set screws are self tappers that I drove through the 3" ABS coupler with the screw gun. Then I backed them out and rounded off the ends on my belt sander. Afterward I glued a piece of scrap acrylic on one end and cleaned it up with my router. On the first one I used weldon...

reef tank is a reef tank

About the only things set in stone; This hobby IS expensive, Your reef needs Light, Your reef needs Salt, Your reef needs Flow, Your tank needs heater to keep it at the right temperature. After that, No two reefers or reef tanks are the same.

Thanks! I really like the lens portal. The only thing I would do different is to make the end cover stay closer to the lens at all times. My tank is doing great right now.

I used to take 100 pics and get three good ones. Now I take 50 and keep 20. I used to use multiple settings for each coral and now I know what I need to get good pics but still take several each time I shoot a single coral. I could actually have at least a 50% keep rate but old habits are hard...
