Anyone using wild caught live plankton ?

I do not think I have access to the tools that would yield a pure culture-or know how to identify them. The trouble involved with creatinga pure culture would, I agree, be worth purchasing plankton. The intent was to use fresh plantkon, and not have to set up any cultures. From what I've...

Anyone using wild caught live plankton ?

I live in west central Florida & I am able to collect my own live plankton. I am adding it to the tank as additional food for mushrooms, gorgonians, and a bubble coral. After the tank is fully established I hope to add a Mandarin Goby. I was recently cautioned by a local science teacher...

    makin diy rock

I wonder if spray foam will provide biological action like cement or live rocks do? If you mix the cement rather dry, it will be porous, and the general idea is that you get some good biological activity. . .

    Kalk and Vinegar? Better?

Could you elaborate on "the bacteria?" I'm assuming you mean the stuff we wish to have in the tank, in order to process fish/coral waste in the whole nitrogen cycle?

    makin diy rock

I found #3 in the local Home improvement store. I think I got 90lbs for about 10bucks. I have read that any portland cement will work. Cure time will depend on rock size. Also, curing in freshwater does not mean it is fully cured. I nearly fried a tank by testing the fresh water cure bucket...

    emergency overflow drain

No system photos yet, my other half had me installing lighting thisweekend. Sewage line is closest to a sink, in the kitchen. No good siphon break the way the system is set up, but I have a back flow prevention valve on the pump, though. The tank is not set up yet, so still a little bit of...

    emergency overflow drain

I'll try to take a pic and measure the sump capacity- I think sump is 5-7g, with a 40g tank. Plan to put a 30g refugium inline. All the tanks are pretty close together, so not too much in linear feet of plumbing. Very good point on short power outage. I do not have any auto dosers at this...

    emergency overflow drain

I posted on another forum and got a super fast response- this site has been a great resource!! Heres my deal: I am putting a tank in wall between our kitchen/den. The tank is close to the sewage drain in the kitchen. I would like to plumb an emergency overflow from the sump to the sewage...

    remodling & chemical concerns?

I am putting a 40g in wall tank for soft corals, and still putting the finishing touches on the walls: Drywall, priming the drywall with paint, then finishing with latex interior house paint. I have not put saltwater in the tank, since I fear the results of the paint fumes, or dropping...
