    My fish are Evil

Another method may be to overfeed your tank a few days prior to adding the new fish and then keep it overfeed for awhile after adding. Aggression may be reduced by full bellies. If this works, then slowly adjust back to nomal feeding. Be sure to adjust you water changes to aco**** for the...

    Royal Gramma under seige

Just a quick update. Had not seen the gramma for almost 2 weeks and I thought it was a goner. Much to my surprose, my wife spotted him in a little hiding place behind a large stack of LR. It has a place that it does not stray too far from, but is able to feed since I have good flow in the...

Humidity in your house from tank, what to do?

Concur with the purchase of a dehumidifier. Have a 72 and a 180 in our living area and our house is very airtight. Last winter I spent hours drying interior windows and then in the spring dealing with some mildew. Bought a fairly expensive dehumidifier that is fairly quiet and not an eyesore...

    Royal Gramma under seige

Just added a Royal Gramma to my 180. My Hippo Tang has taken exception to its presence -- every time the Gramma comes out of the rocks the tang gives serious chase and then the Gramma disappears for a day or two again. Other tankmates are a Black/White Percula Clown, 3 Bartletts Anthias...

    Birdsnest Browning

Kevin, I may have panicked too soon. I had already moved the coral up (a bit) higher in the tank, ran a bit of carbon and did an extra water change (in case it was a nutrient problem) but was impatient when I posted. Noticed yesterday that there appears to be less brown and a return to more...

    Stocking the new 180

Tank is here, but stand is "on its way" so I have lots of time to ponder its inhabitants. It will be a FOWLR with some mushrooms and zoos -- no LPS or SPS. I do not want to duplicate my 72 which is evolving into an SPS tank. In the 72, I have 3 pajama cardinals, a perc clown hosting a BTA, a...

    Plumbing Questions-Advice sought

I am planning the plumbing for my new 180 and have a few questions for the plumbing "gurus" out there. My tank has double internal overflows rated at 600 gph each. I plan to use a Mag 12 as a return and want to split the returns. The Mag 12 has a 3/4' outlet -- does it reduce resistence to use...

    Birdsnest Browning

Kevin, I'm John from CDA and am running the PFO's I got from you in November --2X250 Mh with 96 PCs. I assumed the MH were 10K??? I'll move them directly under the light and higher up as well as increasing flow.

    Birdsnest Browning

My Seriatopora hystrix has been in my tank for about a month and is starting to fade and brown. I have 2 X 250 MH about 9 inches above the water and the coral is about 8-10 inches from the surface. nitrates and phos are undetectable; temp is right at 78; sal=1.025. cal=430; ph=8.2. skimming...

    Skimmer for 180

Looking for skimmer recommendations for my new 180 (hopefully delivered soon!)-- will be basically a FOWLR with a few mushrooms and zoos, not a reef tank. (Have a 72 that is evolving into SPS tank) Trying to be frugal, but still get a decent unit. Prefer an in sump so I do not have to do...

Info needed on an Engineer Goby/White Stripe Blenny

Engineer goby becomes what is called a convict blenny as an adult. Can grow up to 12" and will eat almost anything they can fit in their mouths. They are peaceful, but when hungry will eat what is available. Beleive I read somewhere they will even eat inverts.

    New 120 _ Ideas Please

I'm starting to consider what type and size of sump to have...either DIY (which is not my strength) or an off the shelf. Although I will not be doing any corals other than perhaps mushroom and a few zoos for color, I am commited to superior water qualtiy. Therefore, I will not do bio-balls or...

Which Aqua C are you using? And where?

    New 120 _ Ideas Please

Finn & Apprentice, Are your drains plumbed individually into the sump or do they merge into one common drain? How about returns...single return pump that "y's" to both returns? (Hope I asked that right?

    New 120 _ Ideas Please

My sources "leaked" that I will be getting a 120 (pre-drilled) with double overflow boxes for Christmas. This is an addition and will not replace any of my other tanks. My 72 gal is now becoming a full blown reef tank with SPS and I will keep it that way. The new tank will be strictly a...

    Ro/di?

I bought a great unit from http://www.airwaterice.com/ and have been very pleased. They offer a variety of models and can customize for your specific requyirements. They are more expensive than E-bay sellers, but they have great customer service and stock all the parts you need and will need...

    Algae after Lighting Upgrade

Thanks all. I am probably quilty of overfeeding and I've been experimenting with new concoctions of homemade food. Therefore, I reap the results of too many nutrients and more intense lighting...so, its time to cut back the food and do a few more water changes. Thanks gain.;) ;)

    Where'd it go????

How big are your engineer gobies? They mature into what is referred to as "convict blennies" and are known to eat anything that will fit in their mouths. Once their horizontal strips start to turn vertical you will notice a change of behaviour that could be detrimental to other tank inhabitants.
