The price on Yellow Tangs have jumped

I agree. I scringe when I see ill tangs that look emaciated and covered in ick or crammed in a 29 gal tank! I'm not a so called "tang police", but as hobbyist we must be responsible for what we purchase. All of us affect the industry each time we make a purchase.

The price on Yellow Tangs have jumped

My Kole cost me 54.00. He was worth the money, but will be removed soon as he has become quite the bully and harasses my orange back fairy wrasse and atlantic blenny. I plan on removing him and returning to an aquatic mariculture facility. I love the Kole, but......he's not going to harrass...

What I want my new tank to look like

Personally, I would not put Anthias in a 40 gal tank as when the fish mature they will be to large in my opinion, plus they need ample swiming room and fed at least three times per day to keep them healthy, fat and sassy. A school of chromis is a good idea. Let me think about this some more...

The price on Yellow Tangs have jumped

yes, they have gone up in price. I think locally they are $50.00+ Cost affects us all when shipping charges (airfreight), fuel costs etc go up. It trickles down to us all sooner or later.

    Sea Hare for Algae control

Thanks so much for both postings. It has been helpful. I do plan on going ahead and purchasing one to help irradicate my macro. Once it is gone I can take it to a mariculture facilty where they have plenty of algae for it to dine on. So it won't starve. Thanks again.

What I want my new tank to look like

I think the pic is stunning. Achievable by all means. Go for it! Be a trend setter, not a follower. I think many times hobbyist try to cram to many corals of different types in one tank. Corals that are alike, in larger numbers (as the maze depicted) will give your tank a more realistic...

    Sea Hare for Algae control

Has anyone used a Sea Hare for algae control. Just curious. I've been thinking about it, but afraid of potential toxin released if frightened. Been searching the web about them, they very unique creatures.

halides finally installed/ty Thanks for the suggestions. Much appreciated. I finally got the lights mounted in the canopy and all is well. One week later than I wanted, but I ended up getting sick and didn't feel like working on it. I finished the project yesterday. I am very pleased! I...

    Mounting Halides in hood.

i had planned on adding my mh 250w 10000k lights to my new canopy this weekend, but it didn't happen. The reflector is parabolic from Hellolights. I was wondering if anyone mounts these directly to their canopy lid or drop them 3/4" screwed into another piece of wood. This would allow more air...

acclimation of corals from vho to metal halide

Thanks. I'll consider this. I plan on having the lights on just in the early evening when I'm home so I can keep an eye on the tank. The supplemental lighting will stay on regular schedule. I may only run halides for 8-10 hours once everything is acclimated. I completed the canopy today...

    rose anemone propagation

why not just let it divide on it's own. That way you can let nature do it and not have to worry that you'll kill your prized anemone. Just a thought.:)

acclimation of corals from vho to metal halide

This weekend I will finally get my 250 watt 10000k bulbs mounted in my new canopy. These will replace my very old vho bulbs that should have been replaced 4 months ago (4@110watts 46.5"). I was thinking of running two 110watt super actinic for 10hrs per day all day (supplemental lighting). Then...

    Moving my tank

Thanks, I am pleased with the results. I do plan on upgrading my lighting to either 250watt or 400watt pfo's, probably 14k. Currently using 4 vho's. I'm looking forward to halides.

    Moving my tank

On Saturday, 1/6/07, I began the task of moving my 90 gal tank from the great room to my office/fish room. If you have ever moved a reef tank it isn't fun until setting it back up! I cleaned equipment, did a 30 gal water change added some new sand all beginning at 9:30 a.m. and finishing at...

    Fraging

I have rubber banded star polyps in the past. Same with zoo's, anthelia, and xenia. My last pulsing zenia attached themselves in a few days. I use a light weight rubber band and attach the polyp around the base to the rock. Some corals take longer to attach than others.
