My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

Yep, tank was taken down in October. Just not enough time with full-time work, finishing up my MBA, and possibly turning my condo into a rental in the near future. It was a fun tank though :(

Seattle to hot 90º this week

I'm really happy that I bought a window AC unit last summer. My 1200 sq. ft. condo is a cool 73 right now. I bought this over a chiller, I figure why should the fish be the only ones that are cool when its hot out. The tank maintains 78-80 degrees right now without any fans. I don't look forward...

    Senior Picture advice

Washington Park, near Anacortes, is also a very cool park that has nice views of the sound. Mt. Erie is also in that area that would be good to take pics at. Anywhere on San Juan Island as well. There are TONS of options!

    Senior Picture advice

There are plenty of places to shoot around here that would work well for senior pictures. You could do Kerry Park that has the famous view of Seattle and Mt. Rainier, Discover Park that has a cool lighthouse and waterfront location, Seattle Arboretum, Hurricane Ridge on the Olympic Peninsula...

First flood in almost five years

The salinity swing was from 1.025 down to about 1.021/2'ish which wasn't too bad. The worst part was that I was leaving town so I only had an hour to clean everything up, refill my ATO, and make sure everything was working properly. All of the livestock looks okay though, which is most...

First flood in almost five years

I guess it was bound to eventually happen. I've been using a DIY ATO for over four years now and it finally failed me. The bottom float switch became stuck in the "on" position and the backup switch was also stuck, which emptied about 8 gallons into my sump overflowing my floor. Of course this...

Hey Cy, do you have any info/pics on the Geo 418 calcium reactor? I couldn't find that model.

    OT: Some shots from Belize

I'm thrilled to hear that one made your desktop. Let me know if you want a higher resolution shot since these are only 900px wide, they look much better at a higher res.

    OT: Some shots from Belize

No worries on asking about the cost of the trip. Belize can be super cheap or pretty expensive, it all depends on your taste. Our ocean-front condo was about $90 a night and it was a really nice place. Fully stocked kitchen, AC, and huge living room. Would could have gotten by cheaper if we...

    OT: Some shots from Belize

I got back a few days ago and got around to processing some of the pictures. We mostly stayed on Ambergris Caye but ventured to Caye Caulker and some Mayan ruins. Here are some of the highlights: 1) Beach shot 2) Sunset over the back of the island (this is getting printed to be hung in my...

    200 gallon design 60Lx30Wx28H

I run the herbie drain on my tank and I'll never go back to a durso pipe again. It is truly a silent drain system. I would run the drain pipe separate from the main drain.

the best dry rock out there?

I was extremely happy with my order from bulk reef supply. The shelf rock they have available was great. The rock was clean and I was able to start up a new tank with it right away. Great stuff IMO.

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

Thanks for the comments Dang. I've always been happy to stop by your place, photograph your tank, and give you some pointers. Your tank has always been an inspiration of mine :)

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

That of course would be nice (and a great time saver) but not realistic by any means. Any and all photographers have to process the pictures, the camera can NEVER interpret the scene as well as you can. That is what shooting in RAW format is for, to keep as much information as possible before...

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

I shoot everything in RAW so they have to be processed before I post them.

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

Here are some new shots. The tank has been doing pretty well and not much has changed really. I added a Foxface to clear up some Calupera a few weeks back and he finished it off. All of the original fish are still in there and kicking: pair of clowns, Tomini Tang, Foxface, three Lyretail Anthias...

    Using "GFO" or not?

From what I understand, GFO and carbon shouldn't be run together. The carbon will exhaust and need to be replaced more quickly than the GFO so it's better to run them separately. I run GFO in a TLF reactor and I don't have any complaints about it, no algae to speak of in my tank.
