Does anyone have a 3ft tall Aquarium?

Looking to build a custom one and deciding on glass or acrylic.
and thickness required ...

Hoping to make a 6ft x 6ft x 3ft tall.

Any sugestions / tips/ideas?
:eyebrows:

Thats going to be a big one. You would be looking at 3/4 acrylic and/or glass at least. Then full euro bracing for the top and bottom with the possiblity of cross members.

Mojo.. what size is your tank?
Do you know anyone that has a 3ft tall Aquarium?
(I just wanted to see how its built )

Also, what's euro bracing?

A eurobrace is the strip of glass or acrylic that is around the top and or bottom of the tank. It goes all the way around. Depending on the tank design it can be as small as 2'' and as large as 6''.
The brace adds support to the to the front, back, and side panels, and aids in keeping the panels straight. It also held reduce the stress on the joined seams.

Chances are you will not find any local acrylic dealer that carries 1'' acrylic. They MAY be able to order it for you. (for a price).

Acrylic at that thickness iis very expensive.

I'm assuming a metal brace would be required at the base to hold the base even.

if someone has any internet links or photos of a similar build, please share.

thanks,

We just built three different 36" tall in the last 2 months. We used 1" for a 72" long tank, and 1.25" for the two 120" long tanks. We welded up the stands for the pair of 120" tanks. We can help you with just about anything for your future tank. Just send me a PM, Jason

what is the current price for a 1" & 1.25" acrylic? $/ft & cut to size...

just trying to get a rough idea.

patsan,
Are you planning on building this monster yourself???
Have you worked acrylic in the past?

i vote get a hold of oceans by design. custom tank specialists. and a sponsor here. i do all their steel work.

I'm planning on designing the whole system, then building the stand, filter and lighting system.
the tank I would defenitely have a profesional building. I've built smaller tanks and filters here and there, but I would not want something of this size to fail...

Is this something you want to view from 3 sides? Or is this going to be a 1 side view? Reason I ask is because if its 1 side you might look at making a plywood tank. I've been looking into it recently and I like what I've seen.

what do you mean plywood tank?
with only glass in the front?...

i'm hoping to get as much view as possible... so view from 3 sides would be preferred.
