ABS Piping

Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

The main reason hobbyist don't use abs in their setups is because it's not pressure rated. Since you're using it for drains it shouldn't be a problem. Is it noisy though ?

I have always read that ABS is not aquarium safe....

Shhh. Not so loud. My tank doesn't know that ABS isn't reef safe, so it's been running fine with the stuff for years. :)

My overflow system is built out of ABS. If you were to check out the bulkheads that many of us use - a lot of them are ABS.

I read some were on a different forum, that the pressure rating for the ABS far exceeds what we run in our aquariums.

+1

My understanding is that ABS is generally rated for about 100psi and that even with the biggest return pumps, we generally don't get much over 15psi.
