Okay, so if iwere to fill my fuge with Xenia would i pulling out as much as say cheato? I only ask because well if its not worth my wild then why bother. Although it would be great to harvest tehm and trade em in for store credit.

I'll see if I can find out if it is as much as chaeto. It will all depend on growth rates, etc, too. Trading into the fish store might make it all worth while, even if it is not as efficient as chaeto.

See thats what i'm thinking but i do have a rather heavy bio load so the nutrients will most deffinately be there. So thats why i am curious what absorbs more but for sure the xenia would be great. I think i will have better luck though with growing the xenia if i replace the PCs with a simple MH.

He's gone to a wedding so you can hijack Nick About the Xenia, I couldn't say...Never had any dealings with it before

Krish, they have computers in ohio too. Hijack away! I like xenia too.

Does anyone know what my main algae is? It is neon green and acts like the brown diatom algae I used to have, ie it is powder like.

(Some of the best conversations get started with a hijack.)

Any chance of posting a picture? How old is the tank again?

Nick if you need some xenia let me know. I will be in chicago for the marathon next month. I can bring some with.

Brian

Does it look like this? This is hair algae.

Not at all. (Sorry, I know your trying to help :) )

It is really, actually, no lie, Neon green. When I clean it off of my glass it whisps away sorta like my diatoms did.

ROFL!:p

Does it look like a pee stain? If so, I have that in one corner of my tank. It just looks like someone colored my pvc board with a flourescent marker. It's not much though...Only takes up about 5 inches square. If I can still see it when I get home because I moved a few rocks last night, I will get a pic and post it for you so you can see if that is what it is:)

I know exactly what you are taking about. I had it for a short time when I first setup my tank. It went away on its own though and I don't have any clue as to what it is called.

Here is what Anthony C said about the neon green algae on WWM

Should stabilize or wane within weeks with good nutrient export processes (protein skimming, chemical filtration and water changes)

You mention that you have cyano growing so that you must have enough nutrients...or something to that effect. Keep in mind that cyano isn't an algae. Cyano is a bacteria and doesn't really have the same requirements to grow as algae. I've finally started getting my cyano under control but it took changing the positions of my existing powerheads to create more flow along the areas where the cyano had been taking over. The larger amounts of flow seem to have done a lot to keep the cyano at bay....I hope!!!

Man...The rock was covering most of it, but when the lights come on tomorrow, I will see if I can shut off the pumps and shoot from above, but here's what I have saved anyways which you "may" be able to see, but if not, I'll do like I said when the lights shut on tomorrow:)

K...Look directly between the two rock piles against the backwall and you will see a flourescent green color on the floor. Then look into the reflection on the left side of the tank behind the rocks. It doesn't wipe up easily and I think I will touch it with my bare finger tomorrow to see if it isn't coraline starting to grow, but with my scraper, it doesn't come up too easily.

cyno

my cyno disappeared when i moved my power heads to another direction seems to be a little around but not as much as i was getting and hermit crabs and turbo snails do the rest:razz:
