Hi,

Friday i added a Anularis Angel to my tank and needless to say my tank mates didn't like him. By Saturday morning his tail and backside fins were all nipped up and my fish had pushed him up into a corner of my tank. I netted him right away and threw into my 20 gal QT. He then proceeded to not eat anything for the next day and a half. I tried everything i had to get him to eat. I used fresh squid, brine shrimp, Dried krill, Red Reef and spectrum pellets. Plus i soaked everything in selcon and garlic for a few minutes too. Since he wasn't touching any of the food i add some selcon directly to the tank thinking that would get into his system wether he ate it or not...right? I was out of ideas and then i remembered that he was nipping at the rocks in my tank. I believe it was the sponges he was after. So i grabbed a few small pieces that had sponges on them and i threw them in the tank. He started nipping at them after a few minutes. So hopefully i can get him to start eating agiain. Also i would just like to add that this fish was use to eating the foods i mentioned earlier.

What should i do though about reintroducing him to my tank? The fish that were harassing him the most were my Pinktail trigger, Niger trigger, and my Blue tang. What should i do for the next time? My LFS suggested building an egcrate cage for the fish and putting it in the tank with the angel in it for a few weeks so that the other fish get use to it but can't get to it and after attacking the cage enough they will get use to the fish and ignore it. Or he said to add more than one fish to the tank to relieve the pressure. The fish is beautiful and set me back quite a little bit so i don't want to lose it. Also any ideas on what to do for getting this guy to eat again?

Thanks

I dont know if this helps or not, but ocean nutritions makes an angel formula frozen food that is made up of different sponges so you might be able to just wedge that on a rock or something. Hope that helps alittle bit :)

good luck, those fish are awsome.

I will have to try that Angel Formula stuff.

I have tried Garlic but it seems to have no effect on him. I guess i could try lowering the salinity to see what that does.

Thanks guys

I am betting your Annularus Angel is not comfortable in such a small tank. I hate to tell you that. Fish sometimes require hiding spots and space. I hope you find him a comfortable home soon. I love that type of angel.

Well its not a bare 20gal it has PVC and LR in it so there are hiding places for it. I don't have room for anything bigger than this. Space wise and equipment wise.

I brought a sick Majestic home from work a few months ago..He wasn't eating, but I'm not sure if it was due to his eyes which were in very bad shape. I don't think he could see.
I medicated him and waited. The first thing he ate was algae strips [placed right in front of his face] All my fish LOVE the purple! After awhile he came to eat with a passion. I use frozen food..Formula's one and two, Prime Reef, Angel Formula, Enriched Brine Shrimp, Mysis, Emerald Entree, Marine Cuisene, Special formula VHP, and sometimes Clam Squid etc..etc... I soak all foods in either VitaChem or Selcon.

Hopefully, your fish will come around..Annularis are pretty hardy. As long as you got a younger one, he should be able to adapt.
As far as placing him in your main...the idea your LFS has is pretty good. He's going to be harrassed to some extent when he's introduced. Annularis Angels are aggressive , he will eventually be able to hold his own.. maybe even rule the tank!!
Is your Blue Tang a Hippo, Powder Blue or Pacific Blue? I had tried to move my Yellow Tang from my 125 to my 240 but my Powder Brown would have no part of it! He attacked !! I have never seen such aggressive behavior before. I moved the Yellow back:rolleyes: Hopefully yours is not as vicious as mine!
You can try rearranging the rockwork right before placing the fish in the display, see if that helps.
Honestly, I'd leave him in qt until he's gained some strength. Make sure he's eating and make sure he's disease free. He will be better able to handle the other fish when he's learned to eat and gained a little weight
