fishyfishy I totally disagree. You are not comparing apples to apples
Sure there are less MI, flowerpots, and elegances available now then there were 5 years ago
BUT
all of those things add beauty to a tank and are far more expensive then a cleaner wrasse that provides a function in the ecosystem.
I mean as a consumer if given the choice of buying a $50 coral that looks nice but will probably die when I can buy a different $50 coral that also looks nice and are easily kept which would the intelligent consumer choose? This is assuming they are given proper info from their LFS.
But if a consumer has an ick problem in their tank why would they not buy a $20 fish that could help their other fish even if it was going to die after the job was done?
And again to my first point, if the LFSs would stock neon gobys, red headed gobys, and yellow coris wrasses (yes they clean sometimes) there would be no need for cleaner wrasses.
And ORA usually has neon gobys for a litttle more then the cost of a cleaner goby.
I mean why are wild caught clownfish still available when there are captibe bred clowns readily available
And last but not least look at Fosters and Smith (I hate them guys)
They talk about being concerned about the reefs and all this and that yet they offer 5 species of clowns both captive bred and wild caught....
Talk about a contradiction, sell one or the other. Or sell both and don't claim to be all involved of the safekeeping of the reefs.
