Looks like it is going to be an awesome mini series for sure. :D

have you watched the 90 sec. clip or gone to their website??
Frankly I think it's a travesty...
and I think their lack of respect to the fish is extremely poor stewartship,
and considering these folks call themselves professional, it kinda bugs me.
it's one thing to make a show about motorcyles or guns, but i really hope
animal plannet takes a good long look at this crap and throws it in the trashcan.
I dont think this is going to wind up being a positive thing for the hobby/industry,
and we really need positive influences or mentors....
not this "las vegas/over the top/how crazy can we make it/bloated yuppie sheeple consumer" themed fish tank show.

....lemme tell you how i really feel... lulz

Shark sticks, LOL!

I kinda have to agree with you skimmy. I am having a hard time with the way they were handling the animals in that clip.

I will wait until the first show before making a ig stink over it though.

There is already a lot of people who would like to see this hobby get shut down. I really hope this doesn't add fuel to their fire. I'll watch it before I pass judgement.

Yes. I am having to wait till I see one full episode before casting judgement on the show. I am hoping that it will be better overall than what they show in the clip.

Cheers,
Alex

Going by the clip on this thread, it looks pretty cool/entertaining! Haven't been to the website or anything though to look further into it. Kinda interested to seeing what this series will bring. It might surprise us and be really good! I didn't see anything really bad in that little clip Mark to show disrespect to the fish or do you mean the part with them holding the fish out of the water for a few seconds talking to it? LOL! If so, trust me, fish can stay out of the water a very long time without being harmed. I doubt those 3 seconds to entertain and grab the audiences attention will hurt anyone. Imagine what those sharks go through when they are taken out of the water to be measured, tagged etc. That's got to be a lot more toture than what these guys are doing in that little clip :p

Looking forward to seeing what this thing will bring. They will have to hype things up a bit in their advertisement/previews to grab the audiences attention. If they can't grab the audiences attention then the whole project will be a flop. If a success, you'll probably be surprised at the amount of people getting into the hobby because of it. More money for the businesses and more members signing up!!!:)

Yep, they are attempting to appeal to a wider audience than just us reefers. They want the show to be entertaining for all.

Cheers,
Alex

Just watched recordings of the first two episodes of "Tanked" tonight. Guess we're worrying about our tanks too much, these guys just put in fake plastic coral and tap water (from las vegas) Anyhoo, found the series entertaining at least. They do throw in the comments about sustainable collection, acclimation, etc. The first episode they build a fish tank in an old telephone booth, was a bit shocked by the amount of fish they put it. Next episode is this Friday evening on Animal Planet channel.

I saw both episodes last week on satellite and found them to be entertaining and hold no educational value. If people can separate the difference from reality TV and educational I think its a decent show. Also reef keepers need to understand that fish keeping is a similar but completely different hobby. Tap water, fake corals and bio balls are no big deal if all your doing is keeping fish. I do however think that people are not smart enough to educate themselves about the parts that are cut from the show like acclimation and cycling the bio filters. All in all I don't think there will be any real harm to the industry at least no more than the uneducated LFS's. Hell I can remember when there were no local fish stores that could be trusted and every other post was a problem caused by bad LFS advice.

Well it catainly has piqued my interest, so will watch tomorrow's episode and see for myself.

Cheers, Todd

After the first episode aired, with the gal screaming about the blacktip lots of people rushed to YouTube. I had a lot of views that weekend. Google pays me a few pennies a day since I allow them to advertise with my videos. This show may end up buying me a case of beer! HaHa! My opinion is that the show is harmless to the hobby and entertaining. I plan to watch every episode.

A lot of people on another forum i go to are upset about the way they handle the fish....and the way they stock them tanks.
They are simple buissness men and its a REALITY show cmon, wat were they expecting to see?

Not poking puffers trying to get them to inflate at the transhippers warehouse on national tv would be a start....

I am plus one for the good treatment of all animals, but c'mon guys. It is a show on the discovery channel. They have made awesome tanks and well obviously they are good at what they do. They have a multi million dollar business. We can all sit here and bash the show, but we take fish out of the sea, corals out of their homes and put them in boxes (some bigger then others, most bigger then mine). We can agree that it is not the way you or I would treat the fish. But it is a TV show.

Ive seen both episode, and educational value is all it offers..I saw them go to ERI to pick out fish..what a joke..they had no idea what they were doing..IMO they are not fish professional...maybe tank building professional but that is about it.
