Barrier Reef in support of PSAS

Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Do you intend the club to offer major equipment? That sounds confusing.

I beg to differ. From what most of my friends and I do, the vast majority of $ is spent locally. Yes it is on livestock which is what the hobby is all about, the equipment is to enable the life. Perhaps the local stores are more set up as livestock and supplies providers than equipment warehouses.

i dont intend anything at this point mike, especially not for the club, as im not even on the bod as of right now:idea: and furthermore, i never said anything about major equipment, ever.

and as far as you and your friends spending habits, i'd say you arent the norm, unfortunately. remember that i've worked at the major reefing stores in town for years and have first hand seen how much psas members buy at the stores.
but, if that has recently increased in my absence to a larger percentage, then great!!!

This is confusing as well , with your idea of turning the club into a self sustaining entity ,who is going to run it and do you plan on that being a full time job with pay to whoever is doing it ?

why am i not suprised that you are confused....lol
theres nothing confusing about it, i merely suggested some different ideas to the club members to make money for their club, no one said that you personally have to understand it, like it, or vote for it. or anyone for that matter, that's the beauty of opinions and elections:idea:

and as far as your business questions, i suggest reading a book or taking a coarse in business management

I thought it was a pretty simple question based on what you stated you would like to see for the club , while this isnt the correct place for these posts (im to blame as well ) I didnt say i was confused personally i said your statement was confusing as to whether the club would be hiring someone to manage the "store" if your plan was implemented. As far as you trying to bash me and telling me to read a book I assure you that i am well educated in business management. I also fail to see why you feel the need to jump on the defensive when a valid question is asked or someone disagrees with your "opinion", I would think that someone running for a position in the club would be happy to answer any and all questions regardless of personal feelings and try to sell the Idea rather than posting rude replies. once again i apologize for this being in the wrong thread

thank you for all working together to make this a fun place!!

I have heard something about this 777 comment.

Rumors or gossip aside c777 doesnt like the NW ,PSAS or the fact that RF started in WA.

I dont think we can change this attitude .

Thats a great way to support the PSAS we are happy to hear this ,hopefully we could match this deal in the near future.

Thanks for the help guys!:D

PSAS wants to say thank you to ALL Sponsors for making this a enjoyable place for All.

Sincerely
Ed

I read this last night , wow!

Skimmy did you open a can-o-worms?

lol, i sure as hell did...:)
that's what i get for thinking outside of the box and suggesting my ideas to psas...lol

and demandrid, you hit it on the head, this isnt the place to discuss scemantics about my business ideas for psas, and especially scince i already mentioned that it could be whatever we chose as a club, like twice:idea:
please correct me if im wrong, but it has been you who's been bashing me, and i dont see the need to react differently than i normally would just to try to get votes.

Wait, I'm FROM the PNW! (Well, not originally, but I've been here since my mid-childhood.) I'd even considered moving away earlier this year--typical youthful wanderlust--but realized that I love the trees and the people (well, some of them ;) LOL!) just too much. And I'm actually a big supporter of PSAS and other such aquarium groups; I think they're a great opportunity for us hobbyists to learn and share info and frags and have fun. And these speakers, like the upcoming event with the topic of culturing live food, or the past ones like the fragging how-to seminar and the seahorse/pipefish one, etc... I think it's awesome. Where else could we get that kind of opportunity? Only flying out to MACNA once a year, IF you have the money, time, and vacation days, and not all of us do (myself included). And when someone's tank crashes and all these hobbyists come out of the woodwork to help them get set up again with frags, physical help with teardown/setup, even just offering condolences or bringing by some beers :D ... It's just so nice to see!--human kindness at its finest! Regardless of who's on the BOD or the president or whatever, I just want to see the PSAS keep on truckin'.

Thanks to Eickhorn for pre-approving this message. :D

I'm with Mikey. I make 95% of my brick and mortar LFS purchases at PSAS sponsors and want to get the store that gets the other 5% as a sponsor (as it is on the way home from work, easy to stop and buy food). While I like others will go online for some equipment purchases, I prefer to buy coral and fish that I can see. I can point to my fish and coral in my tank and tell you where they came from and it is from sponsor's stores and fellow reefers . . . Barrier Reef, Barrier reef, Barrier reef, indoor reef, balogh03, herefishyfishy, bigt, salmonslayer, vicki, Barrier reef, Jan, littlefishies, disturbedreefer, Shark reef, a guy named chad in puyallup (do not remember his RF name, too many chads here now) Barrier Reef, reef mystique, oh and did I mention Barrier Reef. Oh yeah and not to forget the guy at the frag swap that sold me a couple of SPS frags for $5 each, I just forgot to get your name! I could keep going but I think you can get the idea. This is a great community of fellow reefers and we have some awesome sponsors.

I would like to personally thank barrier reef for all they have done for us,as well as the many people we have sent there way....Mark , (aka..skimerwhisperer) when was a part of barrier ,took lots of time with us in getting us set up with the propper equiptment.....Krisfal gave us the recomendation to go there and we were not dissapointed...It seem to me that this thread has gotten a bit off track....More political than appreciation...Back to the thanks for the sponsership and the quality which we all have come to expect for this great store...Thank you guys...Shane:)

Herefishyfishy - A few people have been mentioning whether they get their livestock and equipment online or in LFS's, so I gave my experience. JUST LIKE SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE DID. And yes, I'm a member as of yesterday.

We still have until closing tonight but this fundraiser has been a bust so far. Zero rics sold :( My original request was for a thread and an email. The email was never sent. The PSAS's real marketing power, which benefits the stores most, is your email list. For future sale announcements and fundraisers to be effective, I would use this tool. Just a suggestion and obviously it is your choice to make:)

Folks....it's threads like this that cause a strain in the relationship between the PSAS and the sponsors that can ultimately result in a loss of sponsorship. When a store steps up to help out the PSAS we should not be posting anything but thanks and perhaps suggestions on improving....no negative posts. Negative posts in a thread started to help out the club is unreal. What can this possibly help????

Cy, thank you to all at BR that have helped us and to the store as a whole for continually helping the club out (even when it doesn't help you...we need to work together to change that).
