Hi,

I understand you guys are the folks to ask about Seattle reef LFSs. My wife and I are traveling up to Seattle next weekend to catch a Mariners game. I was hoping you could recommend a couple top notch LFSs to visit while I am there. We are catching the train in from Eugene, so I could like to stay in general downtown area but if there is a spectular, must see shop some where within a reasonable distance, I would be up for an adventure. Southern Oregon is pretty weak on LFS so I am excited to see a cool one. Thanks for any suggestions.

Schottman,

I take it you liked the LFS up here that you were able to Visit LOL... And you didnt even make it to one of the Better ones (Advanced Aquarium) he ALWAYS has top notch Acro colonies in stock... He is just starting to do frags within the last month or so but his Colonies are just Awesome.. Words cant Explain it.. IMO the Best LFS in the general Portland Area... LOL...

Under the Sea in Mt Vernon and Blue Sierra in Issaquah would by my two choices. Under the sea just relocated and is small but prices are low enough to make you like a kid in a candy store. Blue Sierra has some decent prices and nice stock if you catch them shortly after a shipment for the best choices. I have gotten a lot of items from there shipped to me here in Japan and havent been disappointed yet for the money spent. JMHO....

Advanced Aquarium in Portland, Where is that located? Is that the one down by Lake Osweego. I absolutely love Soutas. I haven't made it over to Blue Sierra yet, but it is on my agenda.

Thanks for the info and the welcome.

So for Seattle I have:

Blue Sierra (Issaquah)
Coral Beauty (Seattle)
Below Sea Level (Seattle)
Under the Sea (Mt Vernon)

Any others? What about Saltwater City? I noticed they are a sponsor.

My father-in-law just moved to Portland so I am sure I will be up there before to long. I was going to ask about them as well. Thanks for reading my mind.

For Portland:

Advanced Aquarium (Portland)

Thanks for the input.

What type of livestock are u interested in? Different shops are better for different things. You can't see them all...

Advanced Aquarium is actually in Salem, Or not too far outside of portland here is their website. http://advancedreef.com/ If you like soutas you will really like Advanced Aquarium... Soutas mainly Deals in Frags.. Advanced Deals alot with whole colonies.. Most have been in his tank for a month or 2.. he has some pretty awesome corals...

Advance is on my must see list in the next couple months

Regarding type of live stock I am interested, I am in to the easy stuff currently like mushrooms and zoas since I still beginner. I like SPS but my jaw drops when I see an awesome softie tank. Some of that comes from the fact that LFS down here don't even stock SPS, so I haven't been bitten by the SPS bug. I am not sure I will be buying anything given the current schedule and funds.

I am just excited to visit a cool shop. Kind of walk around with my mouth open and imagine.

I can totally relate. I took my wife on a date to Portland with no kids. What I got out of it was my annual shopping trip to Soutas. $500 later, my frags, maxima, and ourselves were travelling down the interstate back to Washington. I cashed out a bunch of vacation, 1/3 went to bills, 1/3 went to Romance, and 1/3 went to the tank. : ) It sounds like I had better earn some more vacation. Thanks for the link. Maybe I should start drinking real heavy, then tell my wife I need to go to AA. (Advanced Aquariums)

My vote is for Blue Sierra, Saltwater City is very small. I have had good luck with Blue Sierra custom ordering livestock. That way, I get what I want, but still get to see it before I buy it. Cheers!

Actually, I was stunned last weekend when I walked into Saltwater City. They were completely loaded up with all kinds of cool stuff! I generally have lots of self control, but last week...ug.. there was sooo much cool stuff that I wanted!

So, they've completely stocked up since the move.

I guess I'm sorry I missed the sale at Saltwater City too. To be honest the one and only time I was there I did buy some equipment that was on sale, but I wasn't really impressed with the place. Sounds like things have changed, and I'll go back and check it out.

I tried to call Below Sea Level yesterday, to get their hours but no one answered. I tried a couple times. Any ideas why I couldn't reach them? The number I have is 206-545-1910. Seems strange they would be closed on a Wednesday.

Any suggestions on how to get to Blue Sierra via public transit from down near the Seattle center.

Thanks for all of the great ideas.
