Bubble Magus Skimmers?

I'm in the same boat as saltyfish, I have a 90 and don't want to limit myself the only problem is the maximum room I have for it in my sump is 7" x 11", any suggestions? also I have it in the living room so the more quiet the better. I was looking at the AquaC's

Thats pretty small footprint. Maybe look at the bermuda's as they are nice and look at externals. I'd pass on aquac's unless your getting a 240 or larger.

Everyone I talked to said AquaC stink, they are grossly over rated. I have a GSM Mini G on mine right now. I was told it could handle a 80 gallon full stocked tank. So far it is doing great by me, with the rock and sand displacement I only have about 75 to 80 gallons of water anyways.

I want to be proactive other then reactive. Meaning I would rather upgrade now to something I know is too big rather then have it cost me a ton in water changes and livestock then replace the skimmer.

I really want to see how well this Bubble by Magus looks and how well it works

Website says 70 gallons both the box and ASM said 80 gallons.

When I asked if the 80 was light Med or Heavy bio load I was told all ASM skimmers are under rated so 80 gallons heavy would be easy.

personally, i wouldnt put that skimmer on anything larger than a 40-50g med. stocked system. you cant tell me that new rio pump they use pulls more than 300lph of air...
do they mention the air draw on the box somewhere??

and i would say that ASM skimmers are overrated, not underrated. especially if you compare it to say the SWC extreme series.
heck i think the newer regular octopus skimmers are more power for less money, same with the new vertex skimmers...

So this skimmer is the new one that you bought and you're happy with or is it the one you had from your old tank that you're using while looking for a bigger one?

What are other people's opinions (skimwhisperer) Is this skimmer adequate for a 90?

I bought this for my 55 gallon tank and then decided to upgrade to a 90 gallon because the 55 was too crowded. I am totally happy with this skimmer at this point but I am looking to upgrade again. I am trying to find the best bang for the buck on something that is rated up to 150 heavy load without using a huge foot print. That is why I am interested in the Magus.

the Msx160 looks great but I really dont want to pay almost 300 with shipping for a skimmer that I am not going to use more then 3 or 4 months.

Salty, I've got an nw-150 which through bulkreefsupply.com is 168 shipped. It's rated up to 150g. Whether that's a heavy load, I don't know and I'm sure skimmer or luke can attest to what the rating truly should be, but I have very little in my 75g and I don't feed a whole lot, but it seem to do a good job of filling it's cup with crap. If you've got a 20g tank for a sump, it'll easily fit in it.

The newer octo's are good for there price. They are going to be one of your best budget skimmers. The vertex use to be but there prices are up a ton from there original prices. Especially for having such janky pumps. The octo 150 is good for a 75-90g tank.

The new model of octo nw-150 is only about 450-500 lph of air injection as I recall from the box, (correct me here if im wrong luke), which would make it's max rating for a sps/heavy feed system 75g. in my opinion....

So for $100 more, you get double the skimming power from the SWC extreme 160...
with mesh impellar, your getting like 1100-1300lph air injection @ 23w out of extreme 160.

And theres no reason why you couldnt run your existing system with the extreme 160 until the upgrade, unless of coarse you cant physically accomodate it, which i doubt..if you were worried about over-skimming, you could even throw in the less powerfull pinwheel as well.

Hell on my 30g I run the octo bh-800 with the sicce pump detuned down to about 550-600lph, and i would run it full power if the skimmer body/neck could actually handle it...

But im not trying to disparage the asm mini your runnin' salty...:)
with your husbandry skills im sure it's doing a good job. ;)
And have you mesh modded it??

I wish...i'd be rich if I got a kickback for how many i've reccomended that people have bought :) lol
but they are just a good, inexpensive, working piece of equipment, so perfect for people on a strict budget. are there better?? of coarse...but it's hard to beat good value when it stares you in the face.

I'd recommend getting the skimmer from here, the customer service is second to none:
