Bubble Magus Skimmers?

looks like it will fit in a bio cube but not with the top on and may have to prop it up some because the cup is 4.33 inches wide. Wont be sitting in the right amount of water depth most likely. doesnt look too impressive from the pics.

Im running this skimmer in mine it seeems ok but im sure it could use some work but im a newb at mods. It pulls a lot of gunk and the neck gets caked quickly. http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...PROD&Product_Code=CPR-SR3&Category_Code=CPRSR

Easily slides inside of the Oceanic BioCube 29 sump area; fits in the middle chamber of the sump section of the BioCube 29 without any modifications. The lid closes as originally manufactured and the collection cup can be easily removed for cleaning through the rear access hatch.

-Dimensions 8 5/8"L x 2 7/8"W x 14 3/8"H
-19"H needed to remove collection cup

Believe me, that nuocean skimmer is very nice. I've ran it and i've ran the external recirc. Both pull alot of nog. Much more than the bacpak. And the cost is less. The bacpak pry pulls 100lph air compared to 2-3x's that with these nuoceans. Heck i can get over 300lph with the larger pw on the mj1200. Thats pretty impressive! You could always try to mod the bacpak pump to mimic the nuocean mod though : )

cool. i have no experience with them but am listening for sure :) doesnt look like it will fit easily into a bio cube anyways but its possible. the pics are confusing too. i see one version the pump is directly in the side of the cylonder then another its hanging on the side of the tank with the powerhead in the tank. is this just a mod ? I would be very happy to learn how to mod the cpr skimmer. its a new design specifically for the bio cube but yeah im not too impressed with the air it pulls. i would imagine you could use a MJ1200 on the CPR-SR3 (not a backpak).

CPR/backpack they are both closely related, lol. The internal bm didn't fit in my tank so i had to get rid of it. Thats why i've tried them both. The internal pulled amazing air, pry had a 4" foam head in it. Nuocean sent me a larger pw to play with and it pulled nearly 350lph, i couldn't believe it. The smaller pw pulled 250lph which is plenty for that size of skimmer. Check out the pics i posted on this thread, its shows the aspiring venturi that will help you.

ok. the pump thats on mine is an Accella pump. 266 gph. they modded it to add the venturi on the intake portion supposedly upping the air intake. I also notice some people are sellign it with a MJ 1200 and both are very simalar pumps. actually almost identical. so why would the nuocean pull more air with the same pump set-up ? just curious so i can mod this one if needed or possible. do i just need a better venturi or placement ? the neck on the skimmer gets completely covered in a day as well as the lid and the foam stays all the way up the tube . its also very easily adjusted to match the water level of the sump and skimmer by simply raising or lowering the skimmercup. it has a o ring around the outside that makes it adjustable.

The pinwheel is much nicer in the mj, the pump is more powerful, has a larger volute and the big difference is the aspiring venturi.

You'll like it. I'll try and take some pics of it running and post them tonight.

Here's a few pics of the boy's tank and his skimmer. This is two days of skimmate in a 20g.

Wow! thats pretty impressive luke. Is it possible to purchase the pinwheels seperatly for people that would want to mod a backpack?

Tom

Idono, you should contact nuocean about that. I'm sure chris will sell them if he has them. But yea, they are totally worth it if you are running a mj900 or mj1200 skimmer pump as they pull alot of air.

jesus...look at all that capnella...lol :)

look at it like this...deltec makes a modded pinwheel impellar and venturi for the maxijet in the mce 300 and they only get 150 lph of air out of it...
the nuocean venturi/pw is getting 250lph, or 350 with the larger pinwheel,
i really really hope they start to sell these seperately... :)

fwiw, i'll be working on a complete wet end CNC'ed skimmer mod for the maxijet pump as well... with new larger volute, inlet and outlet as well as venturi and pinwheel. so many damn stupid skimmers with a mj pump on it...

SWEET! now only if I wasn't upgrading to a bigger tank and a NW150 octopus in the next couple months.....lol I would totally get one!

i sent them an email saying that i already owned the skimmer and wanted to replace the pump and venturi etc but havent heard back yet. guess i should try and call them.

one days worth with this skimmer non modded and fits in the bio cube. (low bioload) CPR SR3 Sump Protein Skimmer.
Correct me if im wrong but there are more things than just lph that will determine how much gunk you pull out in a day. things liek correct water levels for the collection cup and particular skimmer hell even temperature. from my observations i will get more gunk if i rinse the cup in luke warm to almost hot water than if i rinse it in cold water just because it takes longer for the skimmer to equalize again etc. little things depending on the skimmer.

Damn that flash makes my tank look dirty :(

Hello Dennis,
We do not sell MJ pumps and venturi seperately. Sorry.

Regards,
Chris

hehe guess they are too smart for that. gotta pay the 80 bucks and get the whole skimmer. or they read these forums :(

Well, atleast you tried! And yes, there s more than just air that makes a skimmer work well. Design & dwell time are very important. Higher sg makes skimmers foam alot more as well. I've never noticed temp playing a role though.
