Im curious. What kind of cameras does everybody use and why? Im asking because my wife asked me to find out. Think she wants a camera...lol

I have a Canon Rebel SLR 8.x pixels...several years old and there are the new Canon are 15 pixels i believe...whatever camera u decide on, you should think about getting a tripod..makes taking those macros shots so much easier.

what would really be cool is to get a GoPro and film a video underwater....:D

+1 to what Kirk says above about the tripod. It's a very useful tool for clarity.

We use a Nikon DSLR and get great pics right out of the camera. We also know people who use the Canon DSLR's and get wonderful shots as well. A lot of it is about whether the camera has manual modes where you can set your settings to what ever you want. White balance is a very important one in our hobby as the camera's don't like to photograph blue very well and the WB will help a lot with that. Saturation and Sharpness as well as f-stop and manual light metering are also used very often in photographing your tank and inhabitants. Do your research and have fun with it.

Ok. Its been a couple months, but the wife and me went out on black friday. We didnt buy a camera but we almost did. Thing is, we cant make a decision on which one. We are stuck between the cannon t3i kit that comes with the 18-55 mm lens as well as getting the 70-250 mm lens, or the nikon 3100 or 5100 with the same mm lenses. Any suggestion?

i vote cannon 60d. it handles light way better than the nikon. ebay has great package deals.

I use a couple different Nikons. I've had a Nikon 8700 since they were the new hot thing many years ago. Paid more for it than many DSLR's.
And I have a Nikon D80.

If I were to buy another, I might go with a Canon. Just looking at what others say about the software and the way the settings are, seems easier than Nikon.

We use Nikon and have been very pleased with it. There are lots of people here who use either Nikon or Canon. They both seem to be quality pieces of equipment. I don't think you can go wrong with either but I'm no camera expert.

Thanks all...that dont help with the undesisive types me and the wife are!....lol...im kidding. The biggest problem is i like the cannon because when i was messing with it, it seemed much easier to use. My wife says the nikon was easier for her...guess we will just have to get both...not. Ok. Thank you. Maybe we will just do a coin toss.

I've been eye-balling the same T3i kit for months now, or something very similar. I got a little advice from another hobbyist here who recommended the cannon with a 50mm 1.8 lens. It's another $100 if you buy it separate. I haven't seen that particular lens included in any of the package deals. Just something to add to your list to help you be a little more indecisive. :) Let us know what you get. Maybe you'll make up my mind for me in the process.

My buddie who is a professional photogragher. Said the t3i is designed for hd video and the 60d is desighned for pics and handles light allot better than the t3i.

Right on senji! Thanks. Me and the wife were both fiddling with each camera for a good hour. I like the cannon. She likes the nikon. I will probably be using it more, so we will likely go with the cannon. I was looking on ebay at the cannon 60d, but the price for those on ebay are the same as the t3i, but the t3i comes with 2 lenses and the 60d is just the body. This will be our first dslr, so id want an easy to use, user friendly camera to get our feet wet. Ive been poking around, looking at different dslr cameras, wow they can get expinsive! Saw one for $4500!!
