That was really cool. Definately a spawning event. As to why, I would guess just all the stress between the water change and the interceptor. Great job catching it on video!

if your worms are anything like the clam worms were, then they should die in a few days.....hey.. you just found a natural bristle worm killer, all we need is a water change and an intercepter, and dead bristle worms
btw, when clam worms go into that mating stage , their bristles close together forming paddles. they then use the paddles to swim in circles, swarming into hundreds of worms all releasing their sperm and eggs into the moon light.
