nice job krish! did you get your flow good in all areas? hey charlie, what happened to that picture of your dogs teeth? i want to show someone!

hmm hey Jsmk... dood i think you're confused.
are you sure you're not talking about Big T's pictures of his dogs with the huge teeth

Krish, 9 months and already adding corals?! Are you insane? You really ought to let that tank mature at least 18 more months before your first coral! :) Do you have a cleaning crew in there (besides you and Mr. Siphon Tube)?

I was looking at your parameters, and was a little surpised, since you don't have any corals in there. Calcium at 400ppm is at the bottom of acceptable, even when coral packed. What could be soaking up the calcium?

Alkalinity is a little low, also. I don't use your communist metric scale, but I thought target was more like 3.5. Oh, wait... you added dKH there. Definitely low. Shoot for a minimum of 9, max of 12. I shoot for 11, personally.

I've also always been taught that SG should be around 1.026, though the more important part is stability. What are you using to measure? I'm sure you're aware of how hydrometers suck and refractometers are the best thing since sliced bread.

Magnesium is the third part of that tripod, and also seems pretty low. I shoot for 1350ppm. I'm surprised to see low numbers overall in a tank without any significant calcium uptake.

Don't forget some softies in there so you can see the water movement! Otherwise, it's just a stick garden. ;)

sorry, i cant remember-whats the first thing you lose? anyway if someone knows where that pic is let me know, and will stop hijacking!

krish, the tank is looking great. just dont drop the coral when you are placing it in. with all that flow you may never be able to catch it.......any ideas what you are going to put in first?

Rob at Premium has some Zoas set aside for you ?? The ones in the corner tank that I wiped clean today while I was there????

Just Kidding :D:D:D

Thanks man...Pretty much. I've decided not to bother much with the flow anymore until I get corals in there to see where I need more if any:)

Thanks for the reply Sherman. The parameters like calcium, magnesium etc are low because I never tried to raise them ever. It's where it's at from just my water changes using Instant Ocean, and from the purple up I just started using in February. I knew I didn't have corals and therefore never tried to adjust anything. I figured if anything needed adjusting, I'd adjust it when the I decided I was going to add corals. My plan has always only been a FOWLR setup, but as I grew into the hobby, things changed. If you guys think I should raise a few parameters, then I guess now is the time, so I can see if I can get it to where it should be and keep them stabilized there. Honestly, I've never ever tried raising or lowering anything at all. Just 2 caps full of purple up everyday and regular water changes using IO every week. As for the specific gravity...Yeah, I know hydrometers suck. Nikki gave me a link to a refractometer I should get which I will order when I order my lights because I know with corals, things need to be more specific. And yeah, I will add some softies as well...An anemone is on my list for sure for my clowns. Thanks for the input and reply Sherman...:)

Thanks Steve! Not sure yet what will go in first. I just want my canopy and lights first! We shall see how it goes:)

LOL...It's at his house:D I have a picture of the frag tank and all:p

LOL!!! why do you think he wants sps... he wants sps because they're sticks that you can easily catch :D .

hey that's not fair i was about to go look a threads just to see what zoos were :p .

Looking awesome Krish!!! The white thing is a rarer type of Foraminiferan than the red ones we are used to seeing. I used to have one huge bunch just like that but was only visible from the fish room. Here's a good pic of that type of >>foram<<.

They are actually quite interesting in their simplicity. Here's some good information on them (near the bottom of the article). I personally think it's cool that they can move. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-07/rs/index.php

Ahh...Thanks Curt! I think someone had asked for an ID a day or 2 ago about the same thing, but they were pink! And the funny think is on that same rock that mine is on, if you look good to the left side, I have pink things starting to grow that looks exactly the same, just a different color! The pinks ones are hard though and can break if you rub against them, but the white one is like a feather...

Hey Krish
your just fine in these ranges.
These are the ranges where corals live. You dont need to push the top or the bottom of any range, just kinda stay in the middle and keep it stable.
There is no need to have CA real high, or Alk real high, or Mg real high. Its wasteful, and makes the corals work way to hard to grow.
Temp 74-82 f. I prefer 79 but that is my choice
Salinity 34-36ppt. I prefer 35ppt but thats my choice.
Ph 8.15-8.6 (8.2-8.3 is optimum)
Alk 2.0-5.0 in meq/l or 6-15 in dKH
Ammonia 0
nitirite 0
nitrate less than 20 ppm as nitrate ion or
nitrate less than 5 ppm as nitate nitrogen (0 is optimal and it will say on your test kit which how to figure it.
Phosphat less than .05ppm
Calcium 375-475ppm
Dissolved Oxy more than 6.9 ppm
Magnesium 1290-1350ppm
Keep them around these but STABLE and they will grow.
Try to keep the Alk, and Ca in balance.

Thanks for those numbers Steve:) Like I've said, my parameters are "just there" as a result of water changes and supplementing purple up (2 caps full a day since Feb). That's where the number just fell and it just so happens it is within the ranges. I guess I will have to monitor things more closely as I start to introduce corals etc in there to see at what rate they are using up things and "if so", to what extent, I'd need to bump up or reduce certain parameters. This is all kinda new to me, so I'm sure it will be a learning experience to say the least:)

Definately ready IMO, You will learn what to add, as you stock your tank w/your regular testing(I know your down w/it). Just take your time like youv'e been doing and adjust accordingling while adding stuff. Can't wait to see these new lights.Good Luck w/adding stuff, it's always a fun experience to see what your tank will handle(when you"yourself beleives it is ready").
Again Krish Good Luck Man:)

What lights are you going with Krish?? I must have missed it if you mentioned them somewhere.

Thanks man...I'm sure it will be a fun and learning experience. You know me...I'll have tons of pictures to share:)

Metal halides Scott(LOL) Rob suggested a PFO retro kit. It comes with 2 reflectors, 2 sockets, 2 bulbs, ballast and all already wired up with the quick disconnect plugs. The bulbs that come with the kit are 10k's but he said I could swap them to whatever, so I'm leaning towards 14k's so far:)

Krish do you have a Quarantine tank?

New corals coming are you going to use a Quarantine tank? As for you chemistry results All I have been adding to my 75 gallon SPS tank is IO 25 gallons every 7-10 days And had very good results I don't know anything about Purple up what is it?

No...I don't have one yet, but I will be setting up one. I've never quarantined anything ever because as you can see, I don't add much. Nevertheless, it's about time.

As for the purple-up, here is a link to it. http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...n=PROD&Product_Code=C-PURPLEUP&Category_Code=
I'm almost out of it. Infact today and tomorrow may just finish it off and then I'll be switching to the 2 part B-Ionic which I already have. Here is a link to that as well if you've never heard of it http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ESV151&Category_Code=

So you don't supplement anything Jeff? Just IO? Do you have a calcium reactor?
